Job change last year and resultant relocation has messed up my hunting. Only been once this year. I'm headed back to my old place in Pickens County for a three day hunt and I'm wondering if they're starting to get active in the central Pickens County area. Anybody seeing rut activity?

Usually right now its wide open. The week before Christmas until the week after New Years is when I have seen the most bucks on their feet.
I can go check on your place, do a little scouting and let you know what it looks like if you need me to. smile

I'd say okay but the landowner has an itchy trigger finger and don't take too well to strangers.I'd hate to be responsible for another shooting... Over the years I've seen them chasing from as early as the third week of December to over into February. Never start the same time from one year to the next so I was just wondering.

Depends on where you are in Pickens county. We are Southwest of Aliceville just across the river. Our rut is almost always from Jan1 - the 24th.

What part of Lowndes you hunt?

I hunt on the county line between Lowndes and Pickens... about 3 miles north of the Roost. I'd say our deer will probably be kicking things off in the next ten days.

I'm right beside you and say you are correct. I havent been in 2 weeks but based on reports I'm getting and past years experience, they aren't in full yet. Getting real close though. Jan 1 till the end of the season and end to febuary they will be on their feet.

If your decoy doesnt have holes in it, your not letting him get close enough... J.H.
