Fred, if you want to hold fast to your liberal ideals of blaming everyone else that is fine, your choice. If you are irresponsible with your pet and let it roam free and something happens to it, it's four fault not someone else's. I guess if your dog gets hit by a car it's the driver's fault not yours. Take responsibility! you really are an idiot. I'm responsible if YOU decide to kill my dog??? Take yer own responsibility for what YOU decide to do. And the consequences. Fred a liberal?...BLUF, shooting someones pet, within 50 f'ing 50 yards of a home... A. Hes an idiot for hunting that close to house B. Regardless of confinement or lack of...Its the country, and only 50 yards?...Its not like its a half mile from home and causing an issue C. If shooter is found I hope they fine their ass so much their grandkids will owe money... I shudder to think what would happen if it was my dog and I saw them do it... Big difference in responsibility of said dog owner and some azzhole letting their hounds loose on folks property...

I'll bet the dog murderer put his scoped rifle on it and didn't use binoculars first, too.

I'm sorry the family pet got killed but what bothers me just as much is the lack of any felt responsibility on the part of the owners. Possibly the dog just got loose from a pen or a chain and got shot but my guess is that it didn't happen that way.
I love my kids and people claim to love their dogs too but I don't let my kids roam around all aver the country unsupervised because I do love them and I don't want anything to happen to them. I do agree that no one should have killed a dog close to it's home but I still want owners to take some responsibility for not keeping their pets out of harm's way.

Like dogs, but right now not too happy after my just another neighbors dog just got out and I had to pick my trash up again. They don't come clean up their deposits in my yard either. They don't clean the deposits off my shoes either! Don't talk to anybody about their dog you might as well he slapping them in the face. Why do people think a four foot fence will keep a 100lb dog in? Dogs are feral animals we have attempted to domesticate. If you can't provide space to let them roam on your property please don't get them! If you don't want them don't drop them off! Make sure you take care of your pets by getting the shots they need! Your dog should either be on a rope or in fence not turn loose to roam the country if you really care for them!

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Yes I love dogs and I will not apologize for that once so ever. I've take plenty of brow beatings because of it. From some prominent members on this board haha! However Troy posted that it was illegal to shoot dogs that didn't pose a threat. So a dog running through your property ismt posing a threat am I correct? So we talk out of both sides of our mouths here. It's ok for us to break the law if it benefits us? Just a month ago we were all in an uproar about the Ferguson mo deal where they were looting. They were breaking the law plain and simple and so are you for shooting dogs. The law is the law whether we like it or not. Shoot a dog or ruin a hunt? I'll let it ruin my hunt. I have learned that if Jesus wants me to kill a deer...I will kill it with no scent blocker clothing with a 223 after chasing off four stray dogs. He is still on the throne and though sometimes we and myself included don't think that everything is truly made by a divine appointment. In short leave the dogs alone and know that God is in control and have faith that your hunt didn't get ruined by a dog! I don't condone shooting anyone's dogs. That said... Trespassing is illegal, too. The dogs are trespassing on other people's property. Where's the relief for the landowners who are getting trespassed on by other people's dogs? Maybe there should be a stiff fine for the owners of dogs that are caught on others' property?

After reading 5 pages of this arguing and debating the shooting of a dog it makes me sad for our society. What has happened to decency? What has happened to thinking of others over ourselves? Are we so selfish that anything that disturbs what we have worked for deserves to be delt death? Are we to the point that anything that inconveniences us is a tragedy? My father taught me better and many of you were taught better as well. We are grown ass me and women enjoying the outdoors as a sport, none of us hunt solely to put food on the table it is time to put that into perspective.
You have a problem with a neighbor, talk to them.

I am the OP. Had I known this was going to get blown all out of proportion, I would never have posted this. I was just trying to help out a dear friend that lost their dog to someone shooting it. Trying to get some leads from fellow hunters that might hear something.
The dog got out of the fence. It happens. This does not mean they are irresponsible pet owners. These people are some of the greatest people you would ever want to meet. Both husband and wife are volunteer firefighters, and for paying jobs, one works for the county and the other for Shelby County Schools.
Someone decided to kill their dog only 50 yards away from the dogs house which happens to be on the edge of the hunting property.
If a mod is looking at this thread, can you please delete it. It is absolutely absurd of how out of control this got.

So my guess is you will get 500-1000 dollar fine. Un-supervised probaition and maybe community sevice if caught. I really dont see anyone getting jail time for this, on a first offence. The jails are already over crowded will REAL criminals. Its is something to concider before you shoot a dog!

Other than your own dog or wild dogs a man shouldn't kill one unless it threatens people, livestock or domesticated pets. If you shoot a man's dog you might as well try to sleep with his wife while you are at it. No jail time for that either right? Probably should keep our wives locked up.

Like I said in another post, when wood goat season comes in a lot of hunters seem to lose all sense of right & wrong. If it's the lease $ spent that they are pissed about maybe they should put that money in a 401k & hunt public land.
