Last I knew, Mark was in Russell county. Duck hunted with him some about 10-11 years ago. First time we went together, we got the dekes out and was waiting for legal light when he asked to see my license and stamps. I showed him, and he said, "okay, we can hunt now".

I dont know him but I am surprised he didnt try to write himself and you up for participating in hunting activities before shooting light. I have been told by a warden that I cant take someone along squirrel hunting even if they didn't handle the gun or dogs. He probably didnt know what he was talking about.

Whew! Thought I was fixing to see my first Aldeer contract hit issued.

I thought Richard Reed started out in Barbour County. I know he was over there and was young in the early 80's.

Richard started in Sumpter Co, sometime before 1980 when I started. Prolly in the mid 70's.

Clem Parnell gets my vote, but that's only because Troy is retired and I've never had the opportunity to personally meet him.
I know guys that have been ticketed by Clem and 3 nights later, call him on his cell phone at 3:00 AM on his off night for a tow home and he'd happily oblige.
That's not why he gets my vote, just an example of how he's thought of around here. He'd write his on dad a ticket, but he'd also walk through Hades with you if you needed a hand.
I'm not sure if he's retired yet or not, but 2 yrs ago he was still at it and said he was about done, but he's been saying that for 10 years.
I swear if Clem, Troy, and another one or two Alabama GW's would get together and write a book, it'd probably be a #1 seller in the outdoors category.

Clem Parnell (retired)

Steve Lawson (retired)

Thad Holmes made a very positive impression on me.

These are the only three I've met and dealt with recently, and Steve was all socially, but I liked and respected all three quite a bit.

I'd LOVE to hear some Tyson (the infamous Dallas County former GW) stories since he seems to be quite adept at scrubbing the world wide web of any mention of his exploits. Seems like I remember Hogwild had a really good one about him, and Dallas County seemed to know him awfully well.

Don Herring was another good one, but he's been retired for years now.

I know they both had their shortcomings, as we all do, but Gorden Bennett and Jimmy Jones (partners for years in Dale county) taught myself and many other young men a whole lot about respecting our game laws and the outdoors. Gordon probably knew the law and how to enforce it better than Jimmy. He could also shoot a gnat's eye out at 100 yards with a rifle. Jimmy is one of the best all around outdoorsmen you will ever meet. If you were messing up and he wanted to catch you, it was just a matter of time. They both had a positive impact on many young outdoorsmen. If I am not mistaken, close to 10 of our current game wardens are from Dale county, including one woman. I'd be willing to bet Gordon, Jimmy or both played a part in most of their decisions to take that career path.
