I have an opportunity to possibly lease some land in the Lisman, Choctaw County area at a very fair price. Has anyone ever hunted that area? If so, what is the deer population like? Are there many hogs in the area? Any info on the area at all would be greatly appreciated.

I hunt Choctaw county but I am southwest of Lisman on the Ms. state line. Our deer numbers are good,we have a few hogs and coyotes,but we run dogs so they don't stay around much after the season starts.Choctaw county is very big on dog hunting so you might want to try and see what kind of neighbors you have if you don't like dog hunting.

Dogs aren't always a bad thing I've heard. I bow hunt only and I've been told by several folks that they have been in a stand where folks were using dogs and they've shot several that were headed back to their bedding areas after the dogs were gone. I'm probably getting the spot rent-free, so I'm just trying to decide if its going to be worth the 3+ hour drive a few times throughout the season.

Yep. Good numbers of deer and some good ones. Arrowhead Lodge (its been almost 7 years since I hunted that area and it might not be around anymore) had some land leased in that area too that they did pay hunts on. The only issue you will have around the Lisman area is the fact that the local outlaw dog hunters will turn loose on your property whether you are there or not. Unless it is completely landlocked, you'll have to deal with them at some point. If there are county roads around it, you'll deal with them just about every day. I swore sometimes that nobody in Choctaw County had a job because it didnt matter, weekdays, weekends, holidays. They were riding the roads and up to no good. There are some good responsible dog clubs in Choctaw county and there are also a big bunch of guys that live around there that just hunt any property that has a road around it that they can toss out on.
