Early December, in area's with a January rut, is always a slow time for deer. Always has been, and yes, we call it the December doldrums.

Been hunting 3 times this year.
1st time saw 3 does, 1 8pt.
2nd time saw 1 doe w/ 2 fawns, 1 8pt. & 1 7pt.
3rd time 2 does.
I killed the 7pt. with rifle Friday after thanksgiving in Fayette County and the doe yesterday at the Cahaba Management area.
I can't complain at all about my deer sightings.

The deer have definitely been weird this year for me. It's either feast or famine. I've sat several hunts seeing nothing and sat several hunts and seen piles.

Been a rough year for me and a friend of mine as well. Just been struggling to see deer. We've been hunting food plots and a large clear cut so far, we'll hit the woods soon if things don't change.

Have seen a good many deer this year, but something was definitely up last week. Had 3 cameras out that I normally get 4 to 500 pics a week on and they had very few pics this past week.

Why do y'all think that your Decembers are slow?

Been hammering them pretty good last three years or so. Was suppose to make it better but that ain't been working out so far at least not for me.

If you're killing a lot of does, you may not have many deer left. I'm only half kidding.

The hammering of does has done a number on the herd at my property. I quit killing them all together. Alabama put a two doe a day, season long rule in several years ago. Within 3 years I'd say our population declined by at least 50%. Now it's even less. I may quit hunting that property all together for a few years. The $300 OOS license just isn't worth it anymore especially when I've got deer out the yang yang here at home in FL. Really a failure by Alabama in my opinion. A one size fits all management philosophy does NOT work. That's why many states are managing on a regional basis now. It sucks cuz we had a nice herd at one time. It's almost non-existent now.
I agree with this 100%

I use to think it was the pre rut "lull". However, I go to GA and see deer every time from September through November. I think the pressure has more to do with it. Kind of like the moron in our club that decided to wait until 4:30 to ride his 4 wheeler to one of our plots yesterday afternoon.

I think it has everything to do with everybody hitting the woods to gun hunt. We don't have it as bad now, since we hunt two different properties.

GO FIND THE THICKEST PLACE ON YOUR PROPERTY AND CUT OUT A HOLE OUR TWO TO SEE THE DEER MOVING THROUGH AND WAIT. ALL OF THIS PRESSURE MAKES THESES DEER GET IN THE THICKEST CRAP EVER DURING THE DAY AND MOVE UNDER THE COVER OF DARKNESS.

For us, it is food related. The deer still have more food readily available in the woods than they can eat. We have next to zero food plot activity during the day or night. Deer aren't even eating at feeder locations unless they are off in the woods where they are spending the bulk of their time near acorns. Feeders in the ag country are seeing little to no activity. Acorns everywhere, except where we need them...

My buddy's processor said they are seeing half the numbers of deer brought in than normal. Attributed it to the warm temps.

I haven't had a hard time seeing deer yet. I've been 15 total hunts, and seen 77 deer.

If I were some of you I'd start looking for somewhere else to hunt.
