Last week and this weekend me and my dad have hunted five days morning and evening except one day and have not seen a single deer. Has it been slow for everyone else or is it just us.

It's been slow, but I can't imagine sitting for 5 days and not seeing a deer!!!
Full moon and hot weather together will make for some hard hunting for sure. What's strange at my place is I haven't seen any scrapes yet.

I hunted Thursday afternoon, Friday morning and afternoon, and Saturday morning and didn't see anything at all. Haven't seen a shooter buck all year. I have probably spent more time hunting than any other year so far. Very frustrating, but I'll be back out there first chance I get.

We have yet to see any deer this year since gun season opened. Last 6 or 7 years we have always had meat on opening weekend or shortly thereafter. No such luck this year. Have come to the conclusion the warm weather has slowed daytime movement. Very strange year in the woods here in Colbert County.

It's slow at my place as well..I have been averaging 6-8 days then I will see one and only one...no scrapes have been found and only 1 or 2 small rubs...plenty of tracks so I figure they must be playing at night or the days we are not there...I did kill one yesterday at 3pm and saw another around 3:45 on the way to the truck..so maybe things are starting to pick-up.

On my Alabama property in extreme northern Autauga county I've gone the last several years and it's not out of the normal to see less than 5 deer for the entire season, or 20 hunts spread out from opening day till Jan 31.

If you're killing a lot of does, you may not have many deer left. I'm only half kidding.

All my good bucks are nocturnal right now as are most of my deer.

Its literally pouring acorns at my place right now. When the wind blows water oak acorns are hitting the ground like their being poured out of buckets. When there is this type of food available then deer don't have to move around much. They're survivalists concerned with conserving energy and staying alive. When they have a full belly and easy food then they'll just lay up during the day and chew their cud and move mostly at night. Its hunger that eventually gets the does on their feet.

The hammering of does has done a number on the herd at my property. I quit killing them all together. Alabama put a two doe a day, season long rule in several years ago. Within 3 years I'd say our population declined by at least 50%. Now it's even less. I may quit hunting that property all together for a few years. The $300 OOS license just isn't worth it anymore especially when I've got deer out the yang yang here at home in FL. Really a failure by Alabama in my opinion. A one size fits all management philosophy does NOT work. That's why many states are managing on a regional basis now. It sucks cuz we had a nice herd at one time. It's almost non-existent now.
