Any thoughts on the state approving a 45-70 during primitive deer season. The current inline muzzleloaders aren't exactly primitive anymore. Probably more accurate at longer distances than a 45-70.

No problem with me. Mississippi is single shot only.

I really want a 45-70 HandiRifle, but it's down the list of "wants" a bit...

I'm against it, it is a modern cartridge, smokeless out of a Marlin with a scope?? Hail no.

maybe if you use black powder loads out of a 1800's replica with open sights....

Might as well do away with the special seasons, as 49er would say. Just open on X-date and close on X-date.

There is nothing primitive about today's inline rifles. A true primitive season would be stick bows, recurve bows, flintlocks or percussion caps with open sights. Set that season and let's see how many guys go in the woods.

I want a special handgun-only week. Nothing but handguns. Why can't we have that?

Of course theres an argument as to the how primitive a modern compound bow is compared to a recurve. To me its not much difference in comparing a muzzle loader with a single shot 45-70.

I have a 45-70 and I don't want it to become legal as a primitive weapon. I have a scoped, inline muzzle loader (far from primitive)for that.

Get the F out of the BATFE. The F is guaranteed by the US Constitution. Those other letters are not.

I have a long bow, recurve ad a percussion muzzleloader. Just wanted to see what the thoughts were on using a single shot 45-70.

I'm not in favor of adding the .45-70 b/c I think it dilutes the meaning of primitive, but so has the inline.

Too few are going to use a flintlock or stick-string/recurve, though, and those don't make money for license sales, gear, ammo and other revenue-producing goods. So there never will be a true primitive weapons requirement other than what's on Wheeler NWR with its flintlock requirement in its tiny season.

Just open "deer season" Oct. 1 and close it Feb. 10. Those who want to hunt in the heat, get after it.

Its about killing more deer...fewer folks hunting now and folks whining about all the work of a smokepole...MS bumped it back to .35 cal...everybody sold their 45/70s and bought .35 Whelens...ruined primitive weapon season...just like our now liberal doe limits...
