What are your suggestions or ideas? I will say it would be great to have small plots further off roads and pipelines. Maybe use four wheeler or four wheel drive tractor to get to spot to plant. Lot of cleared areas that would be great with small plot instead of one huge plot!

They could start by bush hogging the camp ground and planting the existing plots first.

You guys do realize much of the property being cut that is enrolled in WMA system is NOT OWNED by the state. Hard to tell the owner what to do with THEIR land.

Good point isn't a lot of it on a 100 year lease or something like that? What about The national forest land? Isn't it owned by the state or federal government?

Barber co. WMA has a lot of extended walk in fields , some are close to 300 yds or more , some heavy timber areas have lanes cut in a long ways, in the timber where you can't drive are skider rds for loging you have to walk in to get too. them roads go all over place. you can get as far remove as you like' for the ones who can't walk we need atv access roads only. just a sort list of things there.

Put the people who dump trash on the properties in jail. These people that back a truck up and dump there microwaves, kids toys, old mattresses, etc. makes me sick.

Varying types and lengths of leases that's why some acreage changes almost annually. Many things we do/don't do are governed by the landowner. Some are not.

Yes I know, Oakmulgee is managed by the U.S. Forestry Service. You can go by their office on Hwy 5 and get a cutting permit, nice folks to deal with as well.

Oakmulgee is on a 50-75 year rotation from what I think I heard. Some of the pines needed to be cut they had gotten so big you couldn't get a climber on them. I would like to see the burning pushed back a few years on rotation since there is very little cover in some areas.
Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

Funny you should mention this, I stopped at the check in station at Oakmulgee during a gun hunt and asked how many permits they handed out in a weekend, I was told up to 600. Not sure how many hunted all weekend or even all day but if that number is correct that is a lot of guns.

First let me say it has been years since I hunted a WMA. The best and quickest way to make it better IMHO has nothing to do with the people who work hard to maintain them. The true answer lies in those who hunt the WMA's. Carrying your own trash out is a start but even better if you carry an empty trash bag in & leave with a full bag. Courtesy is also lacking. Don't park beside someone else & pile off into the woods unless you know where they are hunting. Make every effort to avoid ruining anyone else's hunt. If you walk in on someone, turn around & go somewhere else. Don't just walk through as if you didn't see them or give a half hearted "sorry' while walking under the tree. Follow the rules, If the road states no vehicles then don't drive around the gate. I promise the guy that walked a mile will not appreciate you bringing him company in your truck.
