Speaking of this...am I the only one who calls pants..."britches"? The informal poll they took here at work said no one talks like that anymore. grin

Nope, Daniel White even got him some short sleeve britches.

That's right.

I wish it was a farm. I'd get a helluva different tax bill every year.

Ours is a farm because we have cattle on it year round.

My definition in my head of what a farm is is this:

You plant, grow and harvest something on it as a market crop and/or you raise some kind of livestock on it. Plus you'll generally have farm type equipment that gets used regularly (tractor, bush hog, disk, hay stuff, planter, etc...). However, a farm can still be called a farm if it looks like a farm but is currently not in a market production cycle (ie: ain't being used right now)--looks might include but not be limited too: farm house, barn, shed, big ole pasture, catch pen, farming equipment, some fields, pond....open area that you could tell was worked back in the day.

I've got some well-to-do friends who have bought secondary getaways and call it "going to the farm". A few were actually farms with houses on them (back in the day) that they bought to have a place to go hunting and weekend retreat. The others, just bought wooded property and they built a house on it and maybe a small pasture--not a farm.

We just simply call it our high fenced, artificially inseminated, genetically pure slaughter house.

If it once was a place where crops were grown or cattle raised to make a living or is currently raising crops or animals to make a living it's a farm,if you are leasing or hunting woods then you have a lease, land or club,no one has ever called paper company land a farm, never in my life heard any place being hunted called a farm until the last few years,I'm with Jughead,a lot of folks say it to try to sound "kewl"

I am sitting on a 90ac bean field on one of my farms. I call it a farm because I plant and harvest crops on it. Our place in bama is our deer camp. The landowner up there calls it his farm because before it was all planted in pines the use to farm crops on it and he said it just stuck in his head as the farm.

Neither, "the mountain"

And in my neck of the woods, someone says "I killed a good 8 point last night", that means it had a light in his eyes. Night = dark, Yankees don't know the difference between day and night. slap

"Why do you ask"?

Too many people spend money they don't have , on things they don't need, to impress people they don't know.
