Never heard of the one you are refering too. However, I grew up fishing the New River in VA, NC, and W.VA. awesome smallmouth fishery with some nice channel cat and musky. Depending on where you are, there is some nice class 3 to 5 rapids as well.

Yep I know where New River is as well as Little New River. Fished them both and caught a 5lb spot out of one of them one time.
I have fished from the Blue Hole all the way to Hubbertville.
