The question presented in this post, is not about whether taxes should be enough to provide public land opportunities. It is about why should one group of public land users pay, but another does not.
Do you need a fishing license to go swimming? More money into the system will not help hunters. It will only result in more restrictions, more convoluted and hard to comprehend game laws, and more officers to enforce them.
Swimming does not require money for things like management and care of roads, etc. I don't think everyone paying the same will create more restrictions, etc. It would probably mean less people using the property which would mean less need for more enforcement and less damage to roads, etc. I don't know what's complicated by everyone paying the same and carrying their own weight.
Why are roads being damaged? The solution is not to spend money to fix the symptom but to stop the problem.
We have several fee areas in the NF that previously were not. There has been ZERO improvements to any of these areas because of fees. No garbage is picked up, no new trails, nothing except that now it costs to do what it once didn't.
