Pulled cards today because we have stopped seeing our daylight deer. Haven't seen a deer in daylight in 2 weeks after seeing them all summer. They were still all over the feeders at night. Nothing has really changed in their environment that I can tell, other than acorns dropping. They simply might not be having to move as much to get their fill. Plenty of food in the woods right now. On another spot we put out deer cane on a well traveled trail to see how it worked for us, not seeing any activity yet. But a couple of people had said it needs to leach out a little bit before it really starts to work.

I don't want to pass quietly into the night. I want to slide in sideways kickin and screamin Life really is awesome ... Soak it up while you can ...

I'd say it's human presence.......plain and simple.

this time of the year folks are doing a lot of scouting/riding around/ checking camera's / food plots/ etc. doesn't take much to send them nocturnal. Especially the ones who have seen it before. think about it, they go all summer with very little disturbance then all of sudden in mid sept the woods have folks in them every few days.

I have personally stayed with the same routine pretty much all year around and the last card pull was out about a month maybe two before I went back in I see this happen every year they kind of disappear with the weather change then they will randomly reappear all of a sudden!!

Loading the feeder hasn't changed, we do it do it once a week so I don't think it is human presence. That hasn't changed. I can see that feeder from the house and no else ever goes near it. We were seeing deer every day except for the last 2 weeks.

Do you wear hunting clothes that blend in with your surroundings? IMHO if you're not in hunting mode when checking cameras or hanging/moving stands then your presence is obvious to deer, and any other wild creature that's leary of humans. Personally, with daylight hours dwindling I believe the photo period is coming in to play and deer are moving into their fall and winter patterns. I'm not a biologist but it seems like every year, about the beginning of October, these same things occur. It's time for them to spend more hours up and moving in the dark.

We fight same problem every year but last year we started pulling cameras and filling feeders at night. Nothing but walk in walk out during day. We started that about Christmas and almost immediately started seeing more daylight activity. Not only did we pull cameras and fill feeders after sunset we did it from 4 wheelers. Gonna do it from the get go this year and looking forward to having good results.

That's one thing I never have to worry about. The deer around here never become dayturnal.

Acorns are dropping and always changes their patterns. When the nuts start falling they know some DA is gonna be trying to kill them.

don't agree that it's the pressure, at least not in some cases. Later on in the season yes, but not yet.
I checked my cameras every 2 weeks all summer. Same routine, etc. and had pics of at least 10 different mature bucks coming to 4 cameras. Fast forward to the month of Sept... I only checked them once. These bucks went from coming to mineral lick and corn at least 4 days a week during shooting hours (late July thru early Sept.) to almost none (during shooting hours) by last couple of weeks of September.
Two reasons, food sources have changed, but for the most part it's b/c they change when they shed their velvet. You could take 10,000 acres with no pressure and come early to mid Oct. half your bucks are going to change their core area, feeding habits, feeding location, etc.
For the naysayers I have a question... if it really is pressure explain why I can put out a camera and corn around the end of July, check it mid August and have 100's of pics of mature bucks, starting just a day after I put the cam out. Then come back in late August and have same number of pics of same bucks. Come back around the 10th of Sept...same story. Then come back Sept. 30th and have same bucks coming to same camera but just earlier or later than they were coming. Only variables I know of are food and velvet shedding... I could be wrong but I'd be willing to bet that if you put out a cam over a feeder with unlimited bait in late July and didn't check it until October 1st you would see a dramatic drop in day time pictures starting around the 20th of Sept.
I think a buck knows the difference b/w camera checking pressure and hunting pressure, just like they know the difference b/w a farmer and a hunter. Now checking cameras during hunting season is a completely different story. your just adding more pressure to an already pressured area during a time of year where bucks know they are being hunted. This can really kill your chance at a mature buck. Just all speculation, but makes sense to me.

changes right now are because of changing food sources.
deer are just like people in that every one of them is an individual. Some are more likely to move in daylight, some just lay up. Some nocount(&&&&&&&^^%%%$^^% s just go nocturnal and stay that way.
I turned a yearling buck loose on a friends place several years ago. He had a nice big red ear tag to keep him from getting shot. Was no need for the tag as no one ever saw the buck in daylight, and only rarely at night. I know he lived at least six years, due to night time pics. He used to lay on the sofa and watch TV with my wife when he was younger. No need or reason for him to go nocturnal, he just did.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

I'd say it's human presence.......plain and simple. This. Going in and checking cameras is no different than hunting pressure to a mature buck. Exactly... With the lack of rain not being able to wash the scent out of the woods.... All your doing is educating the deer to your presence.... No different than when hunting them.. They smell ya... They gone....

Acorns falling, put your camera on a white oak.... Or better yet hunt one when season opens.
