My problem with them is a couple of times a year they have the races based at Lake Lurleen. They ride in packs around the county roads and will not move over, expect you to move for them. They will have goobers standing at the intersections trying to stop you for the bikes to come through. Last year i was headed in the opposite direction they were all in their lane (no problem ), the problem was the damn Tuscaloosa City cop on the motorcycle in my lane I almost hit head on waving me to move over. What the he!! is the city cop doing escorting bicycles in the county? I am sure on the tax payers dime. Not to mention the weeks of practice before. F all of them!!!

I told myself i was going to comment on this topic this time but I cant help it. I am a bike rider. I love riding my bike. It is my hobby. I am mindful of the areas I ride. I dont choose busy roads and stay off the road during busy times. All bikers arent buttholes. Yes you have the ones that ride in the middle of the road just because they can but the majority follow the rules of the road and use common courtesy to automobiles. With all this being said, If i buy a tag and install mirrors, brakes lights, etc what good would this do to your perception of a cyclist? I will answer this for you.....nothing. You will still be pissed that I am riding on the road eventhough I was forced to buy a tag. I dont mind buying a tag and would gladly do so if the money went towards building bike lanes. The bigger issue here is not safety. People get pissed at cyclist because it slows you down for at the most a minute. If you are in musch of a freakin hurry leave earlier. Does it make you feel like more of a man by stomping on the gas when you pass us? Why not just go on by like a normal person? Why not pass us like you do the tractors? Do you get pissed when the big John Deere is going down the road with his oversized disk and taking up both lanes? Probaly not but infact he is doing the same thing, slowing your commute. Its all about common courtesy these days or the lack there of. By the way, does the farmer have to buy a tag for his tractor? Nothing against farmers as the area I live in her in SW Alabama is full of them but why single out cyclist to buy tags? Why not make everything that goes on the road buy a tag? Last thing and I will grab my popcorn and set back and watch. Thinking all cyclist are like the ones that ride down 280 at 5pm on a Friday evening is like thinking all deer hunters are the redneck, dog running, deer killing just for the heck of it kind of people. There are good and bad people in everything.

When I'm on the tractor planting food plots and I drive down the road, I'm no more making a living than the guy on the bicycle. Some of your guys' justifications for hating bikers are pretty lame. And for the record, I don't bike...and yes, I mumble under my breath when one is causing me a 30 second delay but I sure don't want to run over them or cuss them or side swipe them and I sure don't care enough to go on the interweb and piss and moan about it. By the way, I hope none of you ever hit and kill a biker b/c I guarantee your past spoken out history of hatred for bikers will be taken into account.

I pay for driver license, gas tax, title tax and more. What do peddlers pay for the road that they want us to share? Just saying that maybe they should pay their fair share to be entitled to use public roads.Then maybe then they would have a reason to piss and moan about "their" rights to be on public roads.

bicyclists pay the same taxes, fees, etc., for their cars and trucks. they choose to ride bikes sometimes.
good grief, what a bunch of whining and moaning about a hobby/sport.
how much time, in y'all's whole driving life, have bike riders cost you? 5 minutes? 10? 60? cost you a job? on time to a wedding?
i've been driving for 48 years. counting all of the time behind bike riders in that period - including 25 or more trips to oak mountain state park, a haven for bicyclists - i've not lost 10 minutes.

I've lost more time to some dumbass trying to haul a $40000 bass boat loaded with cane poles behind a $400 S-10 down Hwy 144 or I-20 in the hammer lane than I have any bike rider.

Actually a pretty accurate statement. Most all federally funded transportation projects already require a pedestrian/bicycle feasibility study.

Question for the bike crowd:

Why is it illegal to ride a bike on an interstate?

It's only illegal in certain states to ride a bike on an interstate.

Why is pedestrian traffic restricted on interstates?

My wife got her bike up and going again. I'm trying to talk her out of riding. She teaches spinning classes, told her that is enough.

Had friend run over a little over a year ago, Almon. He's ok now but the old man that hit him pretty much just run right over him and was mad at him. On a country road no less.

Because they're small, hard to see, disrupt the flow of traffic, pose a hazard of big wrecks, and move a hundred times slower than traffic.

Research may say otherwise on one of the five points I made. I'm sticking with the other four, and the fifth is open to subjective debate.

Well my wife and I just got back from Michigan, and yes we ride bikes. No spandex, but we ride mountain bikes (sometimes on the road). However, in Michigan they have bike trails that double as snow mobile trails, they also have hiking and atv trails. Their public land access and trails were amazing. I was amazed to pay a $31 fee to have access to all of these things. We could have biked everyday for a month and not use the same trails. We could have traveled from city to city without ever getting on the road because many trails paralleled the roads.

Most roads allowed atv's and snow mobiles to use the shoulder. I know some are against it, but if money was spent this way in our state, it would at least be for things we could all use. I saw so many 4-wheelers and atv's using the public trails and public access, and I believe that would help eliminate some of the trespassing (some people will always trespass).
