You sum it up pretty well in my opinion.

Its usually no big problem until they block the lane and refuse to move over so you can safely pass them. SOME of them pull this bullshit going over Cecil Ashburn or Green Mountain then it becomes an issue. Anyone who has been over Cecil Ashburn or Green Mountain know...Very steep and Cecil Ashburn has an emergency lane on both sides, but SOME will refuse to move. These are the same ones that will cry "Share the road" but will ride between rows of cars stopped at a traffic light to cross the intersection while the light is RED.

Or if you have ever met one coming into or out of Clouds Cove. Nothing like the pucker factor of rounding a curve early morning and finding one screaming along at about 5-10 mph.

You want to see a double standard? Find a group of 4-5 or more and get in front of them--(safely and courteously). Slow down to about 3-5 mph and hold the lane(just like they do). Don't let them pass (Just like they do). Watch the out come.

So you safely pass them and then slow down for no reason other than to piss them off?

Kinda a doosh move if you ask me.

Yep. Exactly. And then get pissy if someone says something to them riding inbetween the cars or running a light.

I have nothing against cyclists. And honestly the "azzhat" riding the bicycle may be a helluva guy/girl that just enjoys that aspect of being outdoors and exercising. To be frank, I've gotten more ticked at a tractor on the road than a any cyclist.

Plus, I had a friend (surgeon) killed instantly about 12 years ago when he was hit while riding his bike. He was on a country road that had very light traffic. Ironically, the guy that killed him was a farmer who refused to stop driving even though his vision was not up to par. The driver got onto the shoulder of the road and my friend never knew what happened.

So yeah, I get a little chapped when folks want to hate on the bicycle folks. When you go to a closed casket funeral of a friend that needlessly died, it can have that affect on you.

32 days ago my sister's husband, an avid but very careful cyclist, was run over and killed by a motorist in Lauderdale County. Jamie did his best to stay out of the way of cars and trucks. I loved him as a dear brother, and it's arrogant and tasteless for people here to call cyclists whom they don't know at all insulting names.

I cut em some slack. I still ride myself with my 10 year old sometimes. Most people around here are either kids, poor, or had a DUI , (no spandex)so it's different. I don't like them being on wmas though during hunting season for sure.

arrogant. tasteless.
amen.
when i was a young man, i rode a bike a LOT; 60 miles in a day was nothing. of course, this was in small towns and secondary roads. and i NEVER wore one of those wrestling singlets or whatever they are to ride. riding is one thing. dressing up like you're in the tour de france to get in a work out is another ...

In all honesty, I feel safer riding in traffic that on back country roads. I've had more cars swerve toward me in the country by idiots that know no police are around. I ride in weekly group rides of around 60 cyclists and we all make an effort to go single file when cars are around. The biggest reason we don't is when we can't hear a car behind us. If people would just tap their horn to let cyclists know you are behind them they most likely will get over so you can pass.

I tell you what pisses me off about them tractor enthusiasts, is when they meet down there at the coop and say hey, let's go down to so and so road that is heavily traveled at 5pm and drive our tractors. Sure enough, there always 20 or more folks driving tractors and a fella in a vehicle can't pass them because the pack of tractors never want to pull off and let people pass. I tell ya, they should stop letting folks have a convoy of that many tractors.

Share the road = share the cost. Buy a tag, have a brake light, signal when turning and a mandatory big orange triangle for slow moving vehicle like the tractors have.

Cyclist need to have a horn, a year view mirror, brake lights, turn signals, maintain a minimum speed, and a state issued tag for a bicycle.

Only in New York City do they limit where they can ride bikes...sounds like a bunch of whiny liberals to me. And if you don't like this, well go see Trox or TC, they'll know what to do for you.
