My lawnmower is running rough. Very rough. If I turn off the shutoff valve in the fuel line it will run normally until it runs all of the gas out of the line, but if I turn the fuel line back on it starts running rough again. What's going on?

Float/needle valve is hung allowing fuel to flow straight through the carburetor.

I see you are in Pike County. Would you like to come down here to Coffee County and take care of that for me?

I could, for a nominal fee. It wouldn't be that big of a to pull the carb and clean it out. If you aren't a carb guy, figure out what motor you have and buy a new carb off ebay (or other online retailer), it would probably cost you all of $25. Putting it on is easy.

If you don't want to pull the carb just yet. Burn all the gas out drain the tank and then fill the carb with seafoam and let it sit for a day or so.

DO NOT LET T.S. TOUCH IT!
Cleaning a carb on a lawn mower is no trouble at all. It's nearly foolproof. Seafoam could work. You could try that first. If that doesn't work, take the carb off, remove the bowl, spray it down with carb cleaner, put it back on.

Drop the bowl, pull the pin the float pivots on, spray liberally with carb cleaner. Clean the inside of the bowl good and reassemble.

Ethanol is hell on small engine carbs. Drop the bowl and see if it looks like dried honey up around the float. Stabill in your fuel will help when you can't get ethanol free fuel.
