I am looking for public land south of shelby county to hunt turkeys on. I'm not familiar with the public land in south/central alabama at all. Any and all thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated. I used to be in a club in elmore county that seemed to have a good population of birds. Be cause of that I was thinking about Yates west Community Hunting Area.

I went to Tuskegee National Forest this morning never heard a bird. I got cut off by another hunter though. I started calling with some light tree yelps and after about 15 mins. I did a fly down cackle. About 30 mins latter I called real agressive and this hunter shot about 75 yrs down in the hollow. I like to have jumped out of my camo. I met up later on with some fellows that were from Shelby Co. on another road and they said they have been camping there for 4 days and have not heard or seen anything. So don't waist your time going there.

I called up 2 birds for "other" hunters at Lowndes, last year.
I don't know their names, and they don't know mine, but they each reaped rewards of my labor and I was not happy.
I hate making a good first impression. There’s no way I can keep that shit up.

i hunt the yates lake west wma. been a few times already on it and its been packed so far. lots of land but of course lots of hunters to. i hunt some land right next to it so i just go over there late morning when everyone leaves out of the area. so far only called up a jake.
i think of a turkey as an Angel who sings on high that blesses me each and every morning the thrill of listening to his preaching!

I'd never even claim to have seen a turkey on public land if you were to ask. Especially on an open forum.

There are plenty of turkeys on the Coosa WMA; there are also plenty of turkey hunters.
All the labor of man is for his mouth, and yet the appetite is not filled.
