Im fix to start a 300 Blackout pistol very soon. Going to run 7.5 to 10.5 inch barrel with .750 gas port,JP buffer, and Spikes Tatical lower. I am ONLY going to run suppressed= subsonic loads in this pistol. Here is my qestion. Does anyone kmow of a bolt carrier lighter that the 6oz JP low mass? I have concedered taking a Dpms M-16 bolt carrier= 7 oz and having it machined down= to take of oz of weight, but i dont know if it can be made light enough? So basicly if anyone has a sugestion on a ar-15 bolt carrier LIGHTER than 6 oz please responed?? Thanks

Why not the 300 Whisper? Check out SSK Industries? It's a JD Jones company. You may already know all of this.

I am fairly sure you can shoot 300 whisper in a 300 blk AAC chamber. Itsn't 300 whisper made of 221 fireball brass? I going 300 blk , because I already had the dies and 1000 rds of brass. Just need to find a supper lite bolt carrier?

Yes or a 223/556 case cut to size and necked out to 30. SSK may offer a bolt carrier to your weight specs.

I went to SSK website. Looks like they only sell complete guns. I may not be able to find a bolt carrier lighter than 6 oz. Basicly I would think a 3 gun competeion , ar-15 build would have a lite bolt carrier. I just want it super lite so it will cycle subsonic ammo better!

10-4. If you can't find what you want, you may try calling SSK. I know they do alot of custom work that's not on their website. Good luck with your search.

Thanks for the info! I will call them monday, and check the weight on the bolt carrier. Im checking on-line for 3 gun competieion bolts= guys running 3 gun ar-15s are running lighter buffers and bolt carriers, so maybe i can do some reserce and find WHO makes the lightest bolt carrier.

Thats a nice looking rifle! The JP low mass bolt is 6 oz. I have found a Boom Fah titane that weights 4 oz but its nearly 500 dollars! I can get a JP for around 175. I wounder if 2 0z is worth 300 more dollars??? I want light weight to cyle the subsonics, but 500 for a titanium bolt my not be worth the extra money?

Midway has the JP. Not for $175 though...... Are you gonna run an adjustable gas system?

I will run Vltor upper attached to a White Mountain Barrel. I am not 100% sure on adjustable gas block? I know that with MY expereince with 223 pistols the .750 porting works best in 223. I have MADE gas blocks CYCLE better buy drill them out to .750, this has been my experence with short barrels. With the .750 I have drilled them out alittle before with a 7 inch spikes tatical pistol to make it cycle subsonic better. I think .840 was about what i drill the gas port out to. My thinking is with 9 inch barrell .750 will be ok. What your experiece with gas block size? I have run LWRC with their adjustable gas blocks, and REPR systems as well as the S&W mp-15 with gas block adjustable systems. What is the best subsonic gas block system???? As long as it ejects I will be happy! grin

I just asked because I read online that with the lightweight BCG and buffer you need to have an adjustable block.

.0750 or number 31 drill bit I think? I left out one zero. Although some refer to a .750 gas block = barrel size in low or medium. I quess I should have mad that more clear. Have heard of guys going to .1060 on some 300blks. But i fell that might be to far??? Whats your opinoin own adjustable gas block Vs Lighter bolt and buffer tube = for the intent of shooting ONLY subsonic ammo and have it cycle?

Why do you need an ultralight BCG? Mine works just fine with a standard FA BCG.

Because I will ONLY run subsonic= suppressed. This gun will be built to ONLY shoot at 1100 fps and less. A lite bolt carrier and buff will help running subsonic.

Thanks, I checked it out. .448 lbs is 7.1 onces. Jp has a low mass that is 6 oz. That seams to be the lightest unless you want to pay 450-500 dollars for a bolt carrier! grin

I run a 10.5" and a 8" 300 blk pistols with the full auto bolt carrier group and a pistol buffer and tube assembly. With the can on no issues cycling 950-1050 fps 200+ grain bullets. Without the can some of the lower FPS loads I've tried would eject the brass but not strip a new round. In the 175-190 grain range it was a lot harder to stay subsonic and still cycle. I am using IMR 4227 powder and Trail Boss. I hear A1680 is good but didn't have any to play with. I have loaded a 250 grain cast bullet down to about 600 fps with the can on and it would cycle. I've tried a JP aluminum bolt carrier and the pistol buffer with the weights removed just to see how low you can go and still cycle. In the end though, if it will cycle at 1000-1050 why go lower.
