I'm looking to buy another 7MM-08 and need some feedback.

I am a diehard 7MM-08 fan (Ruger M77 MKII, Browning A-bolt Micro Hunter). I've killed a pile of deer with both. I just want something with a longer barrel, and made in America. I hunt with the A-bolt mostly but it just bothers me that it says Made In Japan on the side.

I've been looking at Remingtons and Savages and want to stay in the 700.00 to 900.00 range for the bare gun.

between those two I'd go with the remington.

Both are great, but I would go remington too since they are moving production to Huntsville.

Expect a better trigger on the savage, but both will get the job done.

The quality control in the Savages are better and I've never seen any savage that wouldn't shoot sub 1" right out of the box. They are fantastic rifles. That said, I like the looks and action on the Rem 700 better. I'd still buy the Savage, though.

You can find them used for around $800

Personally, I would look a bit and find a nice semi custom Remington with McMillan stock and new better tube for about $900-$1000. You could also get a used Kimber for about $1100. If I bought a new bone stock Remington, I would look at their new all stainless Mountain Rifle.

I like Savages but wouldn't own a $900 Savage. I suppose because I just see them as a lower priced gun and likely always will. I would buy a Ruger American before I gave that kind of money for a Savage. Now if you can find a nice Savage like you want for around $500-$600 then that might be a good choice.

Both Savage Axis that I have had (223 and 7mm-08) would group better than my Remington 700's out of the box.
But I like Remingtons better (feel,looks etc) and would go with a Remington.

Remington is the only thing I would buy. I hate the Savage triggers.

Savage, unless you are going to build a custom or like trigger recalls. Aftermarket support is the only plus for Remington IMHO. If you're going to take it out of the box and hunt then- Savage (model 14), Vanguard S2, Tikka, Browning in that order.

I know many that think savage means cheap but they are just a better quality product than Remington, these days.

Ive shot a remington 700 my whole life. That being said i bought my son a savage weather warrior with accutrigger and acustock. I had to put an extra 5-6hundred dollars in my remington to get the things this rifle had right out of the box. Both are shooters and you will like both but savage has some real nice rifles out now.

The only real advantage Remy has is the ability to customize.

For a deer hunting rifle in the SE United States, for shots on deer at reasonable, ethical ranges, my answer is: it doesn't matter. Either brand you listed (or most any other brand for that matter) will do the job quite nicely right out of the box.

Buy the rifle that fits you best, has the best look and feel to you, and the one whose trigger feels best to you.

Now if your hobby is shooting, I have a different answer for you.

Savage has really improved over the years and make a fine rifle.
I own two, a lightweight hunter in 260 and by the way shot the smallest group with it next to my 22-250. Who would have thought from a skinny barrel?

My other Savage is a weather warrior in 6.5 Creedmoor.

Modern day savages are cut on a CNC machine and as far as someone's statement about the ability to customize is foolish. The savage is one of the absolute easiest weapon to accurize and accessorize. They are where a lot of home gunsmiths cut their teeth. The 700 and Remington have moved to the back burner as of late because of savage and their accutrigger and their out of the box accuracy. Remington had gotten bad as of late with consistency. Some guns are great some not so much. To me find a better value than the savage 110 with an accutrigger and I'll buy you supper. I'm not talking about personal opinion. Because if we are talking opinion then it doesn't matter. Want the best value? Then buy savage.
