To add to the deck discussion you say "flat" but is it REALLY flat? If its not a 60" deck will reveal it fast. My 3 acres is "flat" also but I have to really watch what Im doing and make height adjustments in different areas or it will look like a construction site. I think a 40" or so would be ideal. Its small enough to make clean cuts but with the speed still wont take you anytime to finish. An extra lap or two more than makes up for the few inches you are missing much like sex.

This one is 61" and has 6. I keep it maintained so they are in good shape. A deck that wide just wont cut uneven ground as low as you want. I have to cut it higher than Id like if I want it to look good. It doesnt bother me to scalp it back every now and then cause I hate grass and would just spray the whole damn yard if my wife didnt care but wanted the OP to be aware.

Is it due to lack of scrub wheels on the deck ? Some have 2 and some have 4 My Scag has 6 wheels on the deck. There is 2 on each side and one in front & rear of deck and it will still scalp. You can raise your cutting height high enough to stop it from scalping but I like my grass cut lower than that. If I cut mine at the height that I like it will scalp on uneven terrain. It's simply because of the bigger & wider deck. Wish I had bought a 48" deck.

I gave more for my commercial Scag than what both me and my wife's first vehicles cost put together!
