Keep this in mind as I'm sharing from my own personal experience.

I bought a new commercial zero turn last year, a Scag Tiger Cat with a 52" deck. I mow about a 2.5 acre yard and had been doing it with a Husqvarna 46" rider. Decided I wanted a much bigger deck so I went with the 52" deck.

Here's what I found out after getting it home and putting it to use. The bigger the deck the greater the chances for scalping issues. If I go through a hole or an uneven area in my yard I get some scalping issues on occasion. You just about have to have a perfectly level yard with no holes or depressions to not ever scalp on occasion with the bigger decks. My yard is not perfect.

If I had it to do over again I'd not buy a deck bigger than a 48". You are already going to save a lot of mowing time simply by going from a rider to a zero turn.

I personally think the 48" deck would have been the perfect sized deck to have bought. "Bigger is not always better" is what I found out in my situation.
