Which is a good, solid, AK 47 platform shooter to purchase...ie., Romanian, Yugoslavian, etc. ?

I've only run a fully auto Russian AK (and a Chinese model) a long time ago during medical/survival training with the SF. I'm not updated/cleared on most other Eastern European clones of the Russian AK 47.

I'm looking for a semi-auto AK 47 in fine functional condition.

I'd prefer a telescoping stock (refit) or maybe a side-folding wire stock. I've visited most of the AK websites and can't find the answer.

Will someone advise which AK platforms are the better shooters in the lower price range ? ($350-$400)

Thanks.

Have you done any reading over here?........

http://www.ar15.com/forums/board.html?b=4

Anything with a milled receiver will be top notch and if you can find one the price will reflect that. Underfolder stocks are really well built, lock-up is solid and I like them better than any other AK folder.

Get the F out of the BATFE. The F is guaranteed by the US Constitution. Those other letters are not.

Wiley, I've done a bit of reading there...but will do much more since you advised me. I probably 'quick checked' the site. Thanks, much.

Under folding stocks are what I meant to say instead of side folders. Glad you pointed out the sturdiness of these. This is the type of info I really need. If you have other other personal experiences with the AK 47...that would help me out...please advise. Very much obliged, Wiley.

Thank you a lot, Deadeye. This is what I was looking for. I missed this Forum somehow, but now I can now make a good decision.

We didn't get to celebrate Christmas with presents this past year. This will be my Christmas present.

Man, I love the VEPR...and the compact folding stock carbine on the 2nd post. But all will do the job as stated. I'm stuck between buying a traditional wood stocked model or a folder. I like the compactness of a folder, but I really admire the 'reddish' wood stocks on some models.

Again, very much obliged for the link, Deadeye.

I wish I knew of a Dealer/Business in Montgomery that sold AK 47 rifles...so I could look at what I was buying.
