Someone please answer for me. My grandfather has an antennae outside on a pole about 18 ft high. It is the one that looks like a tree on top. It was ran straight to his tv. It has not been used in years but I was thinking about getting it. If I hook it up in the box where the old dish cable used to go in, will the antennae work throughout the house the same way as the dish? Doing it this way I do not have to drill into the house. Also the antennae still should Br good right?

Should be as long as your tv has a digital converter built in...I think.

Won't play a lick without the converter box. Antenna will probably be ok, but the converter will run you about fifty bucks. I did the same thing for my father. He is 86 and just can't work a remote for Direct T V. This gets all the channels he needs and is simple to operate. Good luck.

If you have an HD television, the converter box is built in.

You may need a pre-amp depending on your location relative to the stations you're trying to get, but if it worked once before it should work now.

I live way out in Winston County and I pick up CBS, ABC, and NBC out of Birmingham perfectly fine, and I could get FOX if I cared enough to try. All we have is a small antenna the size of a sheet of paper. Granted, sometimes I have to tape it to a pole and hold it way up close to the ceiling, but still. When I lived up on Sand Mountain above Scottsboro, I had an antenna like the OP is talking about and a pre-amp, and I got all the Huntsville and Chattanooga stations just fine. I was running it through an existing cable TV setup (I wasn't paying no dang cable company for free TV) and it worked just fine.
