Just a reminder to please know what is beyond your target when shooting buckshot. In a standard OO load, there are 9 pellets equivalent to a .30 caliber rifle bullet flying through the woods.

A friend of mine investigated hunting accidents for about 15 years. He said buckshot was by far the number #1 killer. Walking thickets, stray pellets, etc. One person was fatally shot at a distance of close to 175 yards with one pellet.

Any high powered rifle can be dangerous, but buckshot is sometimes thought to be a safer choice?

Just want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable season.

One of the accidents my friend talked about was a family member that shot another one fatally doing a deer drive. By no means, I am not knocking any method of deer hunting. I just wanted to remind everyone (including myself) to be careful out there. Too many good folks on Aldeer for one to get hurt.

Current 00B 3" loads would have a retained pellet velocity of approximately 500 FPS at 175 yards.
