Has anybody gotten it yet? I need to renew my DL this week and was going to go ahead and get the star added on. What documents did you have to show? I'd rather not have to show my passport every time I board a domestic flight. Thanks for any info.

I have one. As I remember you have to show two things of several to choose from. Birth certificate is one. Sorry but I don't remember all that are accepted. Don't know why they just won't take a valid passport, .

I know what a passport is for. The original post said he didn't want to show his passport to board domestic flights so I wanted to know if this is something new since a current drivers license works fine now. I looked it up and it won't be needed for at least a year if it is ever implemented.

Google Alabama Star ID. Original deadline was 12/1/14. Tomorrow. But looking at the website you are good till 2016 when the Fed enforces it.
From the website.
All current Alabama driver licenses and ID cards will be accepted for official federal purposes until at least the beginning of 2016, when the Department of Homeland Security will implement its enforcement phase.

Start of 2016 is what I read. I'm just trying to get ahead of the ball since I'm up for renewal now. Cost is the same and if it keeps me from having to tote my passport everywhere I go, might as well.

If you don't have the star ID, you will have to show your pass port even for domestic flights when it goes into effect.

Having a passport is not a requirement for traveling by air or any other means within the US.

Having a passport is not a requirement for traveling by air or any other means within the US. No, but having a star ID is going to be and the law says, if you don't have a star ID, then you can use your passport or not fly.

Got mine when I renewed my CDL in Feb. Showed them my birth certificate and vehicle registration as proof of residence.

My passport stays in my backpack anyway. Never know when I might have to run to Canada short notice or should I ever lose my DL while traveling I could still get home.

Got my license renewed today. Tips for anyone else needing the STAR ID: you can only get the star ID at DL examination locations, not a satellite location. 2 forms verifying address has to be provided and current DL does not count. I had my truck registration and my voter registration. Also had to verify SSN. I had my passport and my SS Card. Apparently enforcement for folks born after 1967 I think won't start until January 2016, so there's no rush really. I just don't want to have to worry about it when everybody else figures it out.

I'm planning on getting one. I read somewhere that the SSA has been griping since day one about people using their SSN for business other than taxes and Social Security, so this is in response to that -- it will be used instead of your SSN for domestic flying. I could just use my passport, but to be honest one less thing to carry is one less thing that may get stolen or lost.

passport is acceptable in place of star ID. passport expires in ten years. DL expires in four and you do have to go to the examiners office to get it, along with all the mexicans and 16 year olds. i chose not to sit in line all morning long with all the beaners.
keep it down home cuz
