Ok here goes, I mowed commercial for 15 years and have mowed with virtually every type of commercial mower made. With that said yard size and terrain has alot of weight on this conversation(some mowers mow steep hills and rough terrain better). I run a diesel bad boy at work alot and find the hydros to be somewhat jerky, my in laws have an elite bad boy gas burner with the same issue. I personally own a John Deere z-trak. All around I believe the best bang for your buck with good resale and plenty of dealers to get parts or service if need be. If you feel like driving a Deere, bad boy, or Kubota I have access to all three and your welcome to try them. Just my opinion, buy a Deere. I am a big boy and the Deere accommodates my size very comfortably too. Be glad to help more if you need.

Oh I'm mowing 2 ac flat ground and my moms yard to at about 2 ac .. So I'm needing a 50 inch or better Keep this in mind as I'm sharing from my own personal experience. I bought a new commercial zero turn last year, a Scag Tiger Cat with a 52" deck. I mow about a 2.5 acre yard and had been doing it with a Husqvarna 46" rider. Decided I wanted a much bigger deck so I went with the 52" deck. Here's what I found out after getting it home and putting it to use. The bigger the deck the greater the chances for scalping issues. If I go through a hole or an uneven area in my yard I get some scalping issues on occasion. You just about have to have a perfectly level yard with no holes or depressions to not ever scalp on occasion with the bigger decks. My yard is not perfect. If I had it to do over again I'd not buy a deck bigger than a 48". You are already going to save a lot of mowing time simply by going from a rider to a zero turn. I personally think the 48" deck would have been the perfect sized deck to have bought. "Bigger is not always better" is what I found out in my situation.

I bought a toro 3000 series with the Kawasaki engine and 60" cut a couple months ago. It's commercial grade and should last me forever just cutting my acre or so of grass. I wished I would have bought one a long time ago now. I can cut my whole yard, weed eat, and blow everything off in an hour now where it used to take me over 2 hours to do the same thing. My yard is pretty flat and where I do have rough spots will be fixed. Mine was a good bit more than 4k, but the time it saves me is worth it.

X 2 I've got a JD757 z track 60" with 28 kawasaki that will flat out cut some damn grass in a hurry.

I have a Hustler Raptor with a 52" cut (at least I think it is 52"). My advice to you would be compare apples to apples. Most of the residential mowers are gonna run between $2500 to $4000 dollars. Find a local dealer that you can trust, go talk to them, and let them "sell" you a mower. Make sure they work on them and can help you if you have a problem. You won't get good help or knowledge from the people at the box stores most of the time. My hustler has three blades, the Kawasaki engine, a fabricated deck, and it cuts good. I paid less than $3k for the 52". No problems so far.

I've got a badboy and I like it. Tough mower. Most mower for least amount of money by far. Last I checked it had about 84 hours and it still runs and cuts like a dream. I have the 60" z series from tractor supply with the 27hp kohler.

The majority of county school systems in Alabama use the Toro 3000 model. The guys that operate them tell me they are the best compared to the Tiger cat, Husqvarna or John Deere. I've only operated the Toro that my buddy owns so I don't know about the others but if I was going to buy one it would be the Toro.

Go to the Toro website and they will sell directly to you, at least they have a price you can use to compare with.

Jstocks, how long have you had your Hustler? I am looking at a raptor myself to replace my mother's JD z225.

I have had the Hustler for a year. No issues thus far.
Yes on the price. It was less than $3k at Mike's Saw Shop in Foley, Al. The 42" is selling at Lowes in Daphne for $2799.
