Was at the local Academy today and was looking at the pocket pistols. I looked at a lil ruger and a lil S&W. Asked the guy behind the counter to hand me the ruger while I was holding the S&W. He looks at me and tells me "ain't gonna happen". I looked a him and asked what he said. He told me I couldn't handle both at the same time. I said I just want to compare weight. He said sorry but he couldn't do it. He and I are the only ones in the sporting goods area. He would not give in. I told him he just lost a sale and I'm taking my business elsewhere. He said oh well I still get paid the same either way. I gave him a few choice words and left before I got more angry and did something crazy. Don't know what this world is comin to. slap

That's pretty standard practice in some places.

A lot of gun stores will only let you handle one gun at a time.

I'm sure it seems crazy but maybe the guy was trying to keep his job and not violate a store policy.

Maybe you can find the pistols weight online?

Yeah it sux but that's just the way it is. He's just doing what the people that sign his check tell him to do.
I bet there's a post on some Internet forum this evening about some arsehole that came waltzing up to the gun counter demanding to see every pistol on the shelf and then getting mouthy cause he couldn't handle all them at once. grin

I understand store policy, he could have just explained that to me from the start instead of being a smart arse about it.

I was at a local outdoor store today. They made a guy show an ID to look at a handgun.

Take your kids hunting instead of hunting your kids.

I'd rather be LOST in the woods than FOUND in the city.

There are many ways to say no and that employee's "no" was a stupid way to say no. Obviously a lack of customer service training and an idiot in the age-old practice of sales.

I'd fire his ass for telling a customer that he gets paid either way. He'd be gone!

Thats why I don't shop firearms at Academy or any store of that type. Most of time the guy behind the counter doesn't know guns and all those stores always seem to have some kind of communist policy anyway. Screw em.

Ditto and thumbup I doubt some of those goobers that work in there know which end of a gun to load. Many of those chain auto parts are the same way, don't know a oil filter from a lug nut.

"Why do you ask"?

Too many people spend money they don't have , on things they don't need, to impress people they don't know.

No offensive, but I'm not walking into one of those type stores for their advise. I don't care about their customer service or anything like that. I'm going in there to handle some firearms that I'm interested in buying.

i was academy in dothan bout 8 months ago. the guy saw me looking at a smith a wesson 40. when he finally walked by me i asked him what the diffrence in that and another pistol was. He said ones a s.w. and the other ruger and walked off. when he walked by again i asked to look at the gun and he said."just a minute" and went and got on the phone. Now to the person on the phone he became a real chatterbox. so after a few minute i left. on the way home stopped by another store and bought the same pistol. it was $20 more. But well woth it.

He could've handled it better. I get their policy tho. I'm sure he'd rather lose a sale than lose his job.
