That isn't a leach, it's a lamprey. Call your local biologist with the dcnr and tell him about it. Please tell me you didn't throw it back in the water. What lake or river?

Yes it was lamprey .. I had never heard of it before now .. I killed it and threw it back in

Lampreys have been here for a long, long time. Nothing to worry the DCNR biologist about. They usually fall off the fish once you get them out of the water and if they fall in the boat they're slippery!

Lampreys? They've been around for a long time in the rivers. I've seen or caught several fish with them attached. Evil little parasites.

It would be shocking to know exactly what all is in the Tennessee River and probably the other rivers in the state involving invasives. I'm sure the next thing we'll see are the jumping Asian carp that already are in Kentucky Lake. Only a matter of time.
