As much as I enjoying hunting with my boys I am looking forward for Tuesday to get here. Boys are age 14 and 12. The 14 year can hunt by himself but I am not ready to turn the 12 year old loose by himself. He as ADHD and he is a handful while trying to hunt with him. We have been successful on a few does but he hasn't nailed a buck yet. I try to be patient with him but it can be challenging at times. Too much talking/moving sticking his head out of the shooting house window etc. I love my boys but I am ready for some ME time in the woods. I have a stressful job and I need this time for ME. Am I asking too much? Am I being a bad father. Honest opinions appreciated not smartass opinions. Anybody else have these issues with their kids? If so I an open to options as long as they don't include playing video games. I take them too the woods to get them away from this crap!

Not being unreasonable at all! I think we ALL need ME, AND ONLY ME time. Good luck, and I'm sure you've deserved it.

You are a good dad for (1) taking them (2) even asking this question. Enjoy your down time.

We all need a release at times. What better to do it than a few hours hunting by yourself. Enjoy!

You fine. We all need time to unwind without responsibilities at times.

I was very fortunate that my kids had a grandfather who liked to rabbit hunt. They loved it, and I loved deer hunting.
Sometimes I would go along with them on rabbit hunts, but I needed some time to myself just like you. Thank God for good grandparents to help us raise our kids.

I work with about 32 kids a day and 7 of them are diagnosed ADHD. I usually go to the woods a couple of times a week to get away from the aggravation they cause me in the classroom. I am going to leave it at that.
BTW-Ask any in the Amish community about ADHD and see what they tell you. They have a cure that works 100% of the time.

Everyone needs me time, the fact that you are taking them doesnt mean you dont need to go by yourself some to. I have gotten frustrated with mine sometimes not being quiet or still or serious enough but I finally learned to relax and just know when I take them its about them. If we sit 10 minutes and they want to go, we go. I just explain that if they want to kill a deer we have to sit patiently and be still and quiet. I just tried to make it fun for them when they go so that they wouldnt give up before they killed one. When I would get ready to hunt, I would go by myself. My kids started hunting with me at a very young age and all of them have now killed multiple deer and hogs and my youngest 2 are 8 yo twins.
I think the turning point for me on getting frustrated was when my 12 yo was 6 and sitting with me one morning, he to is ADHD and I was telling him that if he didnt be still and quiet we were not ever gonna get him a deer, his response was " I dont care I just love being out here with you and talking as long as you want to" He has since killed several and sometimes we still just talk and sing and even get out and play in the green field right before dark. Just keep the times that you do take them fun and the rest will come.

My wife and I had girls. They went dove, quail and deer hunting with me. It was a wonderful time. They are grown now with boys only. I have gone hunting with my grandboys but now they are grown. Now I have to hunt by myself. Remember we are here for only a short time, so enjoy your boys they will not be boys much longer.
I am drinking from my saucer cause my cup has overflowed. Thank you Lord
