I'm trying to decide between buying an inexpensive AR-15 or getting a reloading kit. What is an inexpensive AR-15 that is still a decent shooter. I have looked at a DPMS but was told by the sales associate that it was not worth the $$.

ATI Omni with the poly lowers are about the cheapest but you get what you pay for. Their new hybrid aluminum / poly lower looks pretty interesting

Spend a little time searching around the interwebs and you can get the parts to put one together for $500-$600. I'm in the process of pooling parts now.

There's a few tricks to this. It involves much nore than just buying parts and slapping them together. Not saying you can't do it, just saying its not just a model car kit.

You could always buy an old 742 rem. woodmaster semi auto, slap in a 10 round clear cut clip and have something similar, for around $250. But then then again it wouldn't look as cool, and apparently thats what it's all about now a days.

S&W M&P15 Sport. I have one and it is fantastic for the money. Out the door for just over $600. No dust cover or forward assist, but you don't need that anyway. Great gun at. Great price.

I've got an ATI that has never been shot that has forward assist and dust cover that I would sell for $650. Actually have 2 but I'm only going to sell 1, bought the other for my fiancée and she could care less about shooting it.

I just bought a blemished complete lower with Magpul MOE hardware for $170 and a blemished 5.56 complete upper with CMV FN barrel with bolt assembly for $320. Stuck them together, added a rear sight and am popping caps for $490 plus the $20 FFL transfer fee. I still have been unable to find a blemish. Mag release button might have had a small ding...
This was a Christmas special but they still might have some deals going. Can't beat it with a stick.

Looking at PSA's site right now, you can get a complete PSA Blem lower with Magpul ACS stock for $270 and add a complete PTAC upper for $400. Add a couple of magazines and ammo, slap the 2 together and start slinging lead down range for a little over $700.

I've looked at DPMS, Bushmaster, and a SW M&P. One thing is I have 9yrs military experience but I really don't want to take the time to build one right now.
