Who all is going to the youth hunt in Jackson Monday? River stage is close to 17', but appears to be dropping.

I'll be there. This weekend is scouting. Saturday and Sunday, 5:00 am to 6 pm. I'll be in a white dodge with an LSU front plate and a Louisiana Sportsman sticker in the back window. Look forward to meeting some new people.

people everywhere. no control what so ever. you have no idea where anybody else is and nor do they know where you are. no assigned areas. only a check in at the ranger station everything else is free game. when we went, their was somebody constantly moving either walking in the woods or vehicles on the roads. when we came out there were some sitting overlooking open sage brush fields ready to shoot anything that crossed, not knowing who or what was on the other side. No more public hunts like that for me.

I think it would work well if they would assign areas, and reduce the number of hunters.

X10 Skintback. My son (8 at the time) went the first year they held itwith his grand dad. Drove down to a bottom got set up and someone 20 yds away shines a light in their face. They got up walked across the road, sat down and with-in 5 mins. a nice 8pt runs by and he shoots it. As soon as it hits the ground another hunter steps out from behind a tree 30yds away right in his line of fire. Told him good thing he hit the deer and will never go back there.

Really?

Sounds like he was more concerned about safety than killing a deer.

It should be a good hunt this time.
The river will be down and allow a full 100 hunters, which is unusual for late January. The bucks are just beginning to enter a pre-rut pattern and the young ones will probably be pretty active.

Please be careful, though.

I have heard horror stories from my buddies that hunted it. That is a lot of kids to dump in strange woods at one time with guns!

Good Luck to all!
