After deer season is over I'm thinking about putting my AR to use ridding this world of some coyotes. I have seen magazine capacity requirements discussed a few times and have seen different/conflicting posts about restrictions for deer, private/public land/WMAs, etc. I can't seem to find squat regarding any of this in the Alabama laws. Maybe that means they are legal because I don't see where they are explicitly prohibited - or maybe I wasn't looking in the right place. I was planning to order some 10 round mags anyway. But, could I use the 30 round magazine if that's all I have? Also, one tract of land I planned to hunt is TVA land (open permit public land). Could I use the 30 round mag for coyote hunting on TVA land? I just want to be legal. Thanks!

the only restrictions on mag capacity for Alabama game has historically been on WMAs

there never has been any restriction on private land

I have no knowledge if TVA has some sort of restriction, but I doubt it.

To be honest, you need to be more specific with your questions.

The law and rules are so complicated, you can't find your answer if you group all those places together. They are all different.

To my knowledge, the law does not restrict the capacity of magazines for hunting coyotes on privately owned or leased lands, nor on open permit or public lands beyond any limits of regular gun control laws.

Not all WMAs have a season for hunting coyotes. Choose a specific WMA, and look at the rules for that particular area.

I'm not familiar with TVA's hunting rules.

Sorry. My question more specifically should have been "can I hunt coyotes on TVA land in alabama with a 30 round magazine"? I can't find anything in Alabama law prohibiting this. The only thing I can find on the tva website (paraphased) something to the effect "all local hunting laws apply".

BTW: It sounds like it's okay but I just want to make sure if anyone is aware of any restrictions.

Thanks again.

Forgive me for jumping in here, but...... how does a game warden know you/I/we were coyote hunting if he pulls up about the time we are walking out of the woods with gun in hand after Jan. 31?

I have also thought about that very question myself but have been told by numerous people "well if you have coyote calls, decoys, etc. then it should be obvious". Who knows? I wouldn't deer hunt with my AR anyway (not that there's anything wrong with that. Don't want to open that can of worms sick) I don't necessarily want to go on an assumption that assumption either.

he dosen't...

but he wil have to prove you were deer hunting if he wants to go that ticket route. Of course dragging a dead deer would negate any defense you tried laugh

I checked a very well known Greene Co outlaw sitting in a shooting house in Feb once. No coyote calls, no deer calls either. I knew what he was doing, he knew I knew . I did not write him any ticket but he knew from then on I was looking at his arse.
