My wife is about to go on a few trips to visit family spread out from florida to north carolina. She wants to get a pistol to take with her. She is capable of handling a pistol no problem. Question is what all does she need to do step by step to become legal to carry a loaded pistol in the vehicle with her?
Background check
Pistol Permit
Get Conceal Carry Permit

Get a concealed carry permit and check to make sure every state she is traveling to recognizes Alabama's permit.

South Carolina and Virginia are the only two "southern" states that do not honor Alabama's CCW permit.

So in south carolina where she will be staying with her brother she will not be legal if she carries?

What does getting a conceal carry permit entail how longbis the wait time?

It entails filling out an application at the sheriffs office and waiting until they say you are cleared and can come pick up your permit.

I thought Virginia and Alabama agreed just this week to recognize each other's permits.

This is correct. The agreement was just a few days ago.

Get the F out of the BATFE. The F is guaranteed by the US Constitution. Those other letters are not.

The sheriff's department can give you a list of the States that allow an Alabama CCP.

83% of all statistics are made up.

your alabama pistol permit from what ever alabama county is good in every other alabama county. I don't care what your anti gun sheriff said.

I think she can legally have it in SC but it would probably have to be unloaded and locked in a box. Most states that don't honor Alabama's have some additional requirement to get one. I am really surprised Virginia has agreed to honor it.

Scroll down a bit past the FAQ's and you'll see a map. SC doesn't show up as recognizing AL CCW, but they may not have updated it yet. Take it as a general reference.

Pretty sure SC doesn't recognize the Alabama Pistol Permit because they require a safety course.

We don't.

Talked to my uncle who's been a deputy sheriff in SC for 20+ yrs. He said in SC you can carry it in your glove box or console because SC law doesn't consider carrying in your vehicle to be concealed. He said if I was to get stopped to declare it and show my permit like in Alabama. No problems.

But just don't carry it on yourself.
