Did you ever notice how people want to buy kids a gun that only puts a tiny hole in a deer, but as they get older and become better marksmen they want a gun that will put a hole in one big enough to throw a cat through??? Never understood that....

Forget the 243 and get them a 308, not much difference in recoil.. you really believe that????? a 308 has a lot more felt recoil than a 243, unless yer shooting a 4 pound 243 vs a fifteen pound 308 rifle.....
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

My sks with the 6 position stock is perfect for a small kid. It's too heavy to free hand but in a shooting house he can prop it and go at it with the stock all the way in. Like I said it don't hardly kick you off the target any. This is it with the stock in. I have a 5 rd mag I'll replace the 40 rd with.

Unless you get scoped, hardly anyone I have ever talked to ever even notices recoil when shooting at a deer. You may feel some difference on the bench but not when shooting a deer.

Both of my kids killed their first deer with a a-bolt 22-250. I've killed everything that walks or flys with it. With the right ammo it is deadly. I used to shoot trophy bonded but went to the 60gr nosler partition. The 55gr remington stuff is good also. I know I just opened up a can of worms but now a days bullets can hold up at that speed and give pass through every time. If I had to just have one rifle it would be a 22-250. My dad has killed some fine bucks with 60gr hornadys out of a 223. I know Im not alone in this.

Nothing wrong with a 22-250 for deer. With a .243, like many have said, no need for reduced recoil ammo. When my daughter started shooting her Remington Model 7 when she was 12, I put a Sims recoil pad on it and she never blinked. She's now 15 and I'm thinking of stepping her up to 7mm-08 or .308, just haven't made the decision yet, and she loves that .243.

After everyone hitting on the subject I'm wanting to find some for my son to shoot instead of 20 gauge buckshot. Where can I find some in bham or the Montgomery I've never seen it. Thanks If you need reduced recoil with a 243, you may want to wait a year or two to take him hunting. 243 has almost no recoil anyway. I agree with this. There's no rush. If he'e not ready, its ok.

I had a friend load me some .243 Berger bullets with reduced powder for my wimpy wife and her Remington model 7...I killed 6 deer with it last year, two of which were over 200lbs. I love that little gun with no kick. Also, my nephew has one of those single shot rossi or handi rifles in .243 and it does have significant recoil for a small person.
