How long should firewood age before it's considered " seasoned" and grade A firewood? What type of wood is best to burn? Ive always burned oak, but had a guy tell me red oak was the best..

Never thought of an exact time to dry, guess it would depend on if it were cut in the summer or winter when the sap was "down". Red oak and hickory is the best.

Cut mine in the Spring, and it's good to go by Winter.

When I was a kid dad liked to cut one season, let it sit till the next. I can remember though, lots of times him cutting in the summer and burning it that following winter.

I'm in Oregon and cut in the spring, dry for winter. Gotta friend that will burn fresh cut but, only when he's burning hot.

I like to cut wild cherry and burn it the same day. Splits easy green too.
not sure what the best way to handle them is but they shouldnt be on tv and gettn married and raisin kids

In a fireplace 6 mo would work. I let mine dry at least a year two if possible. If you have a wood stove that wood needs to be really dry. Red oak and Hickory are hard to beat IMO

A year is best. They sell a device to determine the moister content. Never had one though. Like some have said, seasoned is best in a stove or you will get creosote. Worse case burn it hot a couple hours a day (WAO).

I almost burn only red oak. Using some now that has been setting up at least ten years. Its as hard as a damn rock. Replaced all the gaskets on my stove and when it gets heated up it will make you open all the doors and windows.
