I'm new to this and am working with my Springer Spaniel. I'm needing some help with knowing wha to look for as far as habitat and such goes. And poss training as well. Thanks a lot in advance.

If your looking for wild birds good luck!!!! Not a lot left you might want to rely on the pen raised birds and set them out. As far as training I haven't been a part of it in 20 years that was when I was young and my grandfather was the one training.

Find a hunting spaniel club? Don't know if they have them but I know they have hunting retrievers clubs. Check out union springs its supposed to be the field trial capital of the world. They have a statue of a pointer in downtown. And I know there are some cadillac quail plantation in the area

I got back into quail hunting a few years ago after a 25 year break to work & raise kids. Have done extensive habitat work & have several coveys of wild quail. You are welcome to come see successful quail habitat work. Thinning, spraying, and burning pine plantations. Looks like a South Ga quail plantation. I've got German Shorthair Pointers & English Setters. I'm located 30 min north of Birmingham just off I65. I do sell quail hunts but always welcome folks with similar interest just to share ideas & watch dogs run

Can I get the same invite? I have a 5 month old Brittany that I'd like to get on some birds. I care less about killing birds right now than I do about getting him some exposure to birds (preferrably wild birds, or at least good, flight conditioned pen-raised).

I plan to build a Johnny House and keep a few at home to work with him. I would love to see your place and discuss habitat improvement.

Yes I welcome anyone to come take a tour and run your dog so long as you & your dog get along well with others.

Great... I get along very well with others and he's learning. He isn't aggressive to other dogs at all, just still has a lot of puppy in him (wants to play). We're working on it. Working on lead training and basic obedience now. He's progressing nicely. I think in another 2-3 weeks I should have him where I'm not embarrassed to let him be seen by others.

I'm entirely new to all of this, so I need as much training or more than he does. When do the birds start to covey back up? When would be the best time of year to come visit you?

Any help/info is much appreciated.

I'm in the same boat as Bama. I'm needing to learn as much as if not more than Jack (my dog). I'm starting in the game late because he is 3 years old but you never know til you try.

I'm not a professional dog trainer but do own a kennel full of bird dogs and spend hours everyday working with them. I'm convinced it's all about basic obedience. Teach them just a few basic commands stay, come, leave it, etc. Everything else is just a game & play to the dog. I run my dogs everyday so you are welcome to ride along about any day. If we don't see quail they can chase dove & rabbits. I start releasing quail in October best way to contact me is [email protected]

I hunt Mt Curs and I assure you when you get to the point of thinking you don't mind someone else seeing your progression with a hunting dog it never fails that the dog will make you want to hide under the truck. It never fails me anyway. Its just one of those things that I cant avoid. New dogs and a new environments will make most dogs act different the first several times.

Following along watching bird dogs do their thing on a crisp frosty morning is about as enjoyable an experience as there is.
