Where is a safe place to stay in Mobile. Maybe somewhere close to University of South Alabama? Where is a place to definately not stay?

The words safe and Mobile don't go together.
I always stay on the Eastern Shore.

Hampton inn at providence hospital, our customers stay there. 10 minutes from USA and plenty safe. Academy is like 2 miles away as we'll as some other gun shops.

Eastern shore. Dauphin Island. Basically, as far as you can get from Mobile and still be within a decent commute of mobile. Don't go west or north either. Only thing worse than Mobile is Mississipi gulf coast.

Whats's your budget? If you are good at Priceline you can get a 4-star hotel downtown pretty cheap. I usually stay at the Renaissance and never felt unsafe walking around town to eat and what not (usually beer and burgers at Veets). There's also a Hampton or similar right down there that's pretty good. I feel safest downtown, most of the outlying areas seem sketchy to me.
If you are too worried, stay across the bay in Spanish Fort.

I have stayed in Saraland before when in Mobile for business. Several places right by the interstate and you can be in Mobile in no time.

Listen to jsh1904 or stay at the Hampton in Saraland. 15 to 20 minutes to campus. I would not stay at any of the hotels on the beltline aka I65 service road.

Closest place to USA is Hampton behind providence hospital. There is a fridays and bonefish grill near there. Any of the chain hotels along 65 and airport are safe too and only 15 minutes or so from South Alabama. If you do go downtown for the nightlife stick to Dauphin street or very close to it.

My company is out of mobile. And I've always stayed at the battle house since my office is in the towers. The battle house is pricey, and I've always felt very safe there. Although I did have someone pull a knife on my just outside the hotel. I have my cc and was packing so I wasn't scared at all. I would say go no where after dark with out your piece!
