Troy killed one at 50 yards with a Ruger .45 single action; shot him in the head. That's probably the most impressive shooting feat I've read about on aldeer.
Many years ago, I hunted a little with a TC Contender; used a .223 barrel some and then decided the little 10" .22 Hornet was easier to carry. Never did get a good shot at one and eventually lost the desire to do it. With me shooting it, there was just too much chance of wounding one and losing him.

I always pack a glock 40 with me just in case. Mainly tote it for snakes and mountain lions and such though.
