Any of you guys drive the GMC/Chevy 1500hd? I'm in the market for a second vehicle (crew cab 4x4 only), and I NEED a truck bad. The wife and I are wanting to buy a nice pontoon, so I'm looking at 3/4 trucks. I really want a 2500hd with the 6.0 or 8.1. I'm not even considering a diesel since I won't be driving it very much. I have a small car to drive daily.
I thought these trucks were kinda rare, but they keep "falling" in my lap" so to speak. Good prices. Good mileage.
For those with these trucks...I know the tow ratings are pretty close to the 2500hd. But any issues with towing with the 1500hd? The pontoon would be the biggest thing I tow. It's probably 30ft with a sundeck on it.

I don't have one, but I would see no problem with towing a pontoon boat with it.

6.0= 11 mpg
8.1= 7-8 mpg
if you buy the 8.1 i hope you fall in love with it because it will be very hard to find a new home for it.

Don't know if you have any interest at all, but there's a crew cab F-250 4x4 for 11,500 just up the road from my place. Good looking truck and seemed like a fair price to me. I think it is a 2005

But I found a nice GMC with the 8.1 in Chattanooga, and it was gone in a few days. I've read that the 8.1 does get worse mpg when unloaded. But they say that when loaded, it get's about the same as the 6.0. Don't know if you have any interest at all, but there's a crew cab F-250 4x4 for 11,500 just up the road from my place. Pontoons aren't that heavy. A regular 1/2 ton, with a 5.3 will work fine too. This ^^^^^. Just make sure you have a trans cooler and it'll do what you want without any problems.  Not much difference between a reg 1500 and a 1500HD. The weight is on the trailer. To really do the heavy lifting ya gotta go to a 2500HD or heavier, but sounds like you don't need that much truck. IMO

I have a 1500HD and tow my 75 HP 4wd w loader and disc. I have a gooseneck so that makes it a lot easier to pull but I've pulled it from the bumper too.
I would say a 1500 would work fine with a pontoon and a HD would definetely do it. I would think since you're not driving it everyday and not worried about mileage an HD may be the way to go. Probably easier to haggle over price on the one with sh!tty gas mileage.

haved owned two 2500hd with 8100 and allison trans 10mpg either way pull anything you want good trucks
