Since you're not looking for a pedigree, I assume you aren't interested in Field Trials. What you didn't say was whether or not you want a gun-dog.
If it's strictly a companion dog you're after, consider one of the reputable rescue organizations. There are some darn fine companion dogs available out there.
Be mindful of the exercise needs of a GSP, they require a lot to remain healthy and happy- especially if it's an only dog. The pointing breeds, (GSP, Pointers, Setters) have a very strong pack instinct, you'll need to establish and maintain the pecking order. The make great companions as long as you aren't looking for a squishy, mushy love bundle. I've owned and trained Elhew Pointers and GSP for 30 years- won't have anything else. Except for that damn Blue Heeler my wife found, that can't tell the difference between me an a sheep
