Interesting. Says "through the first two weeks" after the close of gun season.

First two weeks of what? February? March? July?

The assumption, of course, is February, as the commissioner says he would like to see. Without specific language, though ...

It also says "pilot program."

Dog hunters will be ecstatic, too.

I just saw a map that showed the counties proposed. My county (clarke) only has extended seasons for those south of 84. I am literally 10 miles from the cutoff line. I am just not sure why the whole county is not included.

Then the people right on the line of that county would want to know why they aren't included and the next county and the next county and so on.

Will this bill trump Gunters proposal for Saturday? I wonder are they in cahoots with each other to make sure it happens? Or are these legislators just tired of waiting on the CAB and DCNR to extend the season?

There are going to be some political ramifications from this. However, if they are truly interested in looking at this as a test to extending the season in other areas (whatever they are), it could be a good thing. Just get some freaking studies going. I looked at a rectangle from Phenix City, to Selma, to east of Cullman, to Centre, and back to Phenix City. There were 3 sample sites in around 14,000 square miles, and one had not been sampled in 10 years. It may be time for some volunteer work to help the DCNR if they need it since funds are short.

When Whatley was running for office, part of his platform was February deer hunting. He's from Lee County, I believe. He wasn't talking about just SW Alabama, either.

This would be a Law not a Regulation so it would trump Gunter's proposal.

Because the people in charge are extremely smart and know EXACTLY where to draw these lines.... I am shocked this question even came up....

I did not see any language that suggested it was for just the sw corner of the state. The bill skinny posted appears to be for the entire state. I will call sen Taylor tomorrow and ask

That's what I see too. Time to make the phones ring, again, to stop it. Could very well pass if they leave NA out of it.

Calcium asked about the maps, which is where I suggested.

And you're right about no language regarding zones - or months - in the "pilot program" bill posted above.

Yep, I suggest in your talk with Sen Taylor, get him to exclude North Alabama and it might very well pass.
