The shooter is reportedly a 65 year old man that was to be on trial tomorrow for menacing. He asked the bus driver to allow the 6 year old child/children off the bus. The bus driver refused and was shot and has since died. The 65 year old shooter is in a bunker behind his house. I haven't heard if the child has been released or not. The shooter has supposedly told LEO's that he has no intentions of hurting the child.

It's still a stand off. The old guy is talking and that's a good thing. He's in an underground bunker which will make it extremely difficult for them to go in on him.

On the news tonight..showed a church, and said he was in a bunker behind it...............we don't have any churches with Bunkers around the house..........rekon its a storm shelter?
The news would'nt hype anything would they?

Swamp ......I think it was abc 33/40 that had the video that showed the church, and said a bunker was behind it........I don't know .............I just hope the youngun gets home safe.........do you know if the youngun is kin to him?

From what I'm hearing it's his neighbor's kid and he supposedly had some sort of altercation with the neighbor. I just hope they don't have to go in. Hopefully he'll give up or be stupid enough to show his head.

another reason we as bus drivers and teachers should be able to tote. we expect our money at the bank to be protected but we cant protect our kids at school.

He supposedly threatened a neighbor with a firearm back in Dec - the 10th I think. On the 22nd, he was arrested for menacing. He was supposed to have a hearing on the charges today. Looks like he snapped, got on the neighborhood bus, and attempted to kidnap the neighbors kids. Bus driver interviened and paid with his life. After shooting the driver, he was able to grab one 6yr old, supposedly one of his neighbor's kids.
The good news is that he is talking and the police still have reason to talk. If they thought for a second that he was hurting the kid or had already killed him, they wouldn't hesitate to go after him. If he's still talking, then he really doesnt want to hurt the kid more than he just wants someone to listen, as insane as that may sound.
Still praying this turns out good for the kid and the police. I don't really care what happens to a murderer.

Just heard that the menacing charge was related to a prior altercation with the shooter and bus driver for turning the bus around in his yard. Could just be hearsay.

Carol Shepard said her daughter, who was on the bus at the time, identified the man as “Mr. Jimmy,” their next-door neighbor.
“All we know is he shot the bus driver and took a 6-year-old child,” Shepard said.
Neighbors said Creel didn’t appear to know the child he took from the bus and has no children of his own.
“I talked to a girl that was riding the bus, and she told me that he came on the bus and said, ‘I need two kids between the ages of 6 and 8,’” Creel said. “The driver told him, ‘I can’t do that.’ (The driver) tried to get away from the guy.”
Dykes was scheduled to be in court Wednesday for a bench trial on a menacing charge.
James Edward Davis Jr., who lives near Dykes on Private Road 1539, told the Dothan Eagle that Dykes pulled a gun on him and his daughter on Dec. 10 after Dykes believed Davis had driven in Dykes' yard. Davis said he reported Dykes to the Dale County Sheriff's Department. Dykes was arrested Dec. 22 and charged with menacing.
