Confirmed it with Commissioner Guy today. He'll introduce regulations to extend deer season until Feb. 10 in southwest Alabama. Map of exact area not yet finalized. It should be by Feb. 9 CAB meeting at Capital Auditorium in Montgomery. Season will close completely 10 days during first two weeks of December. All weapons legal during regular season can be used. Bucks and does legal on private/leased lands. Decisions on whether does will be legal on WMAs and/or state forests will be up to that area's managing biologist. Guy will also introduce regulation creating mandatory, phone-based game-check system in an effort to collect more and better data on county-by-county basis. http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2013/...t_river_default

CAB members will not be able to vote on Guy's recommendations until the March meeting.
Since Guy plans on introducing the regulations, it is highly unlikely members will vote against it.
Even if they did, Guy has the final word pending mandatory legislative review process.
Guy said there is nothing in the current regulation to address the fact that dog-deer hunters in the extension zone lose another 10 days from their overall season.
He said that is something that may have to be addressed in the future.

We don't need to lose those 10 days in NE Al but we could close it the first 10 days of gun season

No, according to Jeff's story: Guy said in order to compensate for the season extension in overall season length, the proposed regulation would also close deer season for 10 days during the first two weeks of December in that part of southwest Alabama where the extension is in place.

Wonderful news...one thing I am extremely concerned about is our deer population in certain parts of the state. I wish this could be addressed as well. Go back to a doe season and allow large landowners to apply for extra tags if they need them. Have a biologist assess the request and issue an appropriate number of tags.

Shouldn't affect me since I hunt central. I say go for it if the proof is there to need the extension. I grew up hunting extreme south MS. They have since extended their season as well.
What I am more concerned with is the tele check system. I really hope they get that to pass. Sure, some people will moan and complain that it is too much of a hassle to deal with and they aren't gonna do it. However, it is these same folks that complain about the regs or lack thereof. The state is trying to make head way but need info for areas to make effective decisions. The tele check is one way to get info and more "accurate" data on what is being killed

I dont think the whole states needs it but i am in southeast also and we dont have enough deer to even see a rut
