When it gets bad enough... a law will be passed that apparatuses will have to be installed on vehicles which will disable cell phones, or maybe just texting, while the vehicle is in motion.
I have kids but they're not driving yet but when they do start, I look at their safety AND, God forbid, others' safety from my kids who may text while driving.
I would support such a law. Government intrusiveness, which I hate, but I think it could possibly save one of my immediate family member's life. Maybe mine!

I'de rather meet someone with a joint in one hand & a Bud in the other while driving than meet an idiot reading a text, they'll run you over & never let up.

Something has got to be done about people texting and driving. Twice in the last month I've been nearly sideswiped by someone texting. I know this because that's what they were doing when they passed me on the interstate and nearly bumped into me getting back over.
I witness people texting and driving continuously. Most are in their 20's and 30's.
So what's being done about this? What can be done? Can you call the State Trooper Hotline? (Allot of good this will do) I wish i had an airhorn (loud as crap) and sounded it when you see them texting. Maybe even a loud speaker mounted in grill an yell at them and say HEY, IDIOT IN THE BLANK CAR, STOP TEXTING WHILE DRIVING.
Is it Hunting Season Yet?

Do a self survey.... for you city folks (unfortunately, I'm one), next time you pull up to a redlight, look around at what people are doing in their vehicles. I bet you'll see that cell is in hand and they're glued to it!!!

I have no problem with them doing it at a red light. Or stop and go traffic.
Once the foot comes off the brake it should stop though. Most of the time you can tell who they are by how far back they are driving from the vehicle in front of them.
Character is not developed in moments of temptation and trial. That is when it is intended to be used.

It's not just city folk, Bucktrot. It happens everywhere.
What's happened is not enough people have been killed yet, or the "right" person's kid hasn't been killed yet ... a legislator, high-profile attorney, celebrity, politician.
Ray Scott once told me the reason bass fishermen keep fishing when it's lightning is because they haven't been hit yet. Unfortunately, it's about the same way with texting and driving, and having a really close call or accident or having a family member or friend who is in one.

Have a cousin in GA thats says he has pulled over several cars for possible drunk driving. Showed all signs swerving, very slow or very fast speed, etc...turns out they were texting or emailing.

My sister was hit a few years back and the man who hit her had 8 previous DUI's and he was still driving. I have had 6 friends killed over the years by drunk drivers. Drunk driving has been a issue long before texting or even phones had been invented. Drunk driving can not be controlled so how in the world can texting be controlled?

I don't see much difference between eating, putting on makeup, texting, talking on the phone, smacking the kids around, drunk driving, diving while getting high, etc.
All should be punished equally.
