Ok for you pine tree farmers what type of herbicide is sprayed this time of the year on the pines and what will this do to my greenfields and deer as far as eating them. And will it effect me as well if I am in the tree.

probably imazapyr
will kill broadleaf trees and brush, but not pines. Would not be good for plots if they were sprayed.

Agreed, most likely killing hardwood and other woody competition in a pine stand this time of year. Would definitely kill your food plots. Most pilots will do their best to avoid a food plot that is already planted. I would not worry if you got sprayed, the toxicity is comparable to table salt.

Here's the link to the safety sheet for imazapyr. Don't breath it in or get it on your skin, if you can help it. http://www.alligare.com/_Products/PDFs/aImazapyr4SL_MSDS.pdf

Lot of ways to measure toxicity. LD50 of imazapyr is >5000 mg/Kg. Salt is about 3000 mg/kg. Which is more toxic? Check out aspirin or other common stuff in your house. You will find a lot of things much more toxic than most herbicides.

I swear by my life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine

Nothing better pulling up to your gate and there sets a pad and helicopter spraying away.

Our property was logged last january. So this past september we created new food plots and seeded with winter rye, winter wheat, oats and top dressed with crimson clover. When we went back a month later nothing had even sprouted. We were notified by a neighbor that our property was sprayed by a helicopter about a month before we planted. We contacted the timber company and was told we could replant with winter wheat just before the next rain.We planted the sprayed food plots with Marshall rye grass and winter wheat just a day before the rain came. We went back to the property today and NOTHING even sprouted. What do they spray and how long does this stay in the soil. Nothing in these new clear cuts is green.Even killed the few little trees that were left standing

My guess is they probably had sulfometuron in there as well (SFM, Oust XP0). That or some type of PRE herbicide, although imazapyr is a pretty good one itself.

Depends on what you are planting and the rates they sprayed at. It is just a guess without knowing, particularly what they sprayed and how much. However, you are looking at what, 6 months since they sprayed for a spring planting, give or take? Most herbicides they would be using shouldn't interfere with most things you plant. With that said, some crops are very sensitive to sulfonyl urea herbicide (like Oust) and may show some injury.
