I noticed last year while looking over a Hollins wma permit that it was legal to carry a pistol there while bow hunting. Is it legal any where else?

If this is what you read it applies to all of the WMA, I think. To the best of my knowledge that was put in recently, maybe last year. However, If you go up above that list of "IT SHALL BE UNLAWFUL:)list you will see a sentence that says, "no fire arms during archery season."

Just dont' get caught with a gun, pistol or other wise, while hunting with archery equipment. I am pretty sure that applies to like hiking or what ever during the "off" season. Right before all those thou shalt nots it planly states no firearms during archery season.

To my knowledge, you are only allowed to carry a firearm while bowhunting in areas open to either sex firearm season.

Our dept. was give a letter from Wheeler refuge that stated if they had a valid CCW they could carry on refuge.

Something about the new law on forrest land. Personally,i don't see anything wrong with folks carrying a handgun while bowhunting.

I asked a GW about this and he said that unless you get a GW with an authority complex that they are pretty understanding if it's a snake shot type loads in the pistol.

With the increase in CrackHeads on public access points or anywhere for that matter, I like to carry a 9mm on my side when I bow hunt. Ya just never know.

I hunt with a bow during gun season so if I'm not hunting in the middle of my lease, I feel better with my 9mm, when I walk back to my vehicle.

I've never been checked while doing such but I'm hoping for a sensible game warden if it ever happens. Besides, I want game wardens to have a key to my gate....come on in anytime!!

I CCW everywhere. If the game warden sees it and writes me a ticket I will just have to pay it. But I have never frisked so the chances of them knowing I have it are slim. twocents

drtrdspt is right. I asked a game warden about this new language on WMA permits. He assured me that if I was bow hunting during bow season and had a firearm in my possession, I would be breaking the law. I tried to show him how unclear it was the way it was written, but he did not see it that way.

Here is plenty of reading on the subject from a post back in February where I asked a similar question.

I don't know about you guys, but I had rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6! I always carry a weapon with me, except when on campus, and I feel vulnerable there without my gun. I always carry a 22 short Baretta during bow season. It fits in my back pocket just like a billfold. Unless I pull it out, you never know it is there.
