2 scrapes were seen on our farm this weekend.
Is this not unusual for this time of year?
Anyone else see any scrapes?

I'm in 2 clubs, one has several rubs and scrapes (Jackson Co.), the other (Madison Co) has neither.
Big buck killed last weekend on both clubs.
I bought an ATV to get to my hunting area, now half the fun of hunting is the ride in and out.

2 scrapes and about 10 rubs. ill be hunting a scrape in the am. tomorrow

After several years of hunting both, now I hunt neither. Most camera evidence I have obtained shows most if not all scrape activity in my area is done at night. Rub lines are good to show a core area of a buck but not a sure thing he is using it in the daytime. This time of year I would concentrate on food sources, and then find the transition areas to and from the bedding areas. I found hunting scrapes and rub lines to have a very low success ratio

They are definitely not a high probability of success area. Our cameras have shown the same thing. 10 bucks may hit a scrape at night and 0 during legal light.

I've seen more rubs this year than I ever have. (for this early in the season) I usually just see a few, and then later in the season it really picks up. I've found one place where a buck (or bucks) have rubbed trees all the way up a draw to the top of a ridge. Probably 12 rubs in 200 yards. It's in the open hardwoods. Most are saplings, but there's one good size cedar tree that's skint up pretty good. Seen a lot of does in the area already, but no bucks.

Few scrapes on our place in Covington County. Very, very unusual for here.

No, it's not unusual at all to see scrapes this time of the year, but it's not the same type of scrape that you'll see over into the rut.
Basically, this time of the year the bucks are marking their territory, letting other bucks know who the dominat buck is. They will not be coming by checking their scrapes to see if a doe had came by , because it's not the right time of the year for the does to come in estrous. (Although a buck will mate any time of the year)
You'd be better off hunting food sources or travel routes.

Most definitely territory scrapes, found prolly 10 or 12 on my place Tuesday. Put you a bag of corn in one of em and he will come back. I guarantee it!
