I spent a lotta time in Panama in my younger days and what started out as a joke has become a serious conversation. I know several people who have retired there and love it, I can take what I’ve planned on retiring with here and live like a king there. Modern medicine, country living, great fishing and all at 1/6 of the cost of retirement here. Now that the shop transition is pretty much handled, we’re seriously considering selling the farm and moving south.

I’m too far south already. If I’m able to move before I die it’ll be north. Way north.
I hate making a good first impression. There’s no way I can keep that shit up.

While the thought of something like this has entered my mind also, Panama is too hot for me. Alabama is too hot for me nowadays. I'd have to go north and I'm not sure I can find one that makes my money stretch further.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

The country of Panama The country actually offers huge incentives if you can prove that your bringing a decent retirement to account, you can have dual citizenship, wouldn’t be a big deal for the kids and grandkids to come visit. Buy a nice place on the lake and catch peacock bass until I’m tired of doing that and switch to a short drive and saltwater fishing. I usually complain about the heat as well but I’m not gonna be outside working my arse off everyday either

Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.
My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

We have some friends that moved down there. Jeff and Rhonda. I think they lived there for 2 years. Now they are back in the States as caretakers on somebody's Air B&B rance out west. They seemed to like Panama. They had very limited means in retirement, so that was the driver for them. I know Jeff spent a lot of time surfing down there. I think they were big Pickleball players and hikers too. I think they have hiked the entire Pacific Coast Trail in their 60's.
They are really awesome people. If you want, message me and I can put you in touch with Jeff. He could probably tell you everything you wanted to know.

I'd long vacation there before I made any kind of permanent decisions.
My mom and step dad moved there for 7 or 8 years. They brag like hell on the place.
But ultimately, they ended back here.

As mentioned, I’ve spent a good deal of time there, we have a couple friends who visited on my recommendation and then moved. I have stayed in touch with friends from my time there as well. It wouldn’t be leaping off into the unknown and I think at some point we’ll probably come back but it’ll be fun for 8-10 years.

I pulled an ALDeer and didn't fully comprehend the original post. The worst thing that could happen is you wouldn't like and and just some back.

David Lee Roth rote a song about a stripper named Panama. Didn’t understand until listening to a podcast several years ago.

Wife is going to Ireland in the spring. I’m optimistic she’ll decide to stay.

A good friend is considering retiring to Costa Rica

I’m amazed that my wife is ok to do it, she’s looking at it like a long vacation. Gotta come back for Christmas and a couple times throughout the year. My understanding, and I think it’s accurate, with proof that you have means to provide for yourself and agree to stay 5 years youre granted dual citizenship and there is a long list of benefits the Panamanian government will extend for coming. The exact package is based on the verification of exactly how well you can stimulate the economy but you don’t have to be a retiring senator moving your offshore accounts for it to get pretty beneficial

They’ve traveled the world and that’s their choice. Just gotta leave every 6 months for a day Your friends need to visit there in April before they make their decision. Last time I was down there fishing, our group decided to book an April trip. When we flew into Liberia the only green vegetation was on the coast. The rest was dry as a popcorn fart. It was like being in Texas in August with the humidity of coastal Louisiana. I couldn't get out of there fast enough.
