anyone else notice milk expiration dates have gone from 5-7 days to 10,12,14 days??? and they still go bad after 5-6 days??

PI counts “ Preliminary Incubation”. This is worst time of year for bacteria, for Dairy’s. Hot weather means slower cooling milk, dirtier udders/teat, cows stand in ponds more, Tall grass and flies, and few other things all go into effect this time of year on milk production. Then you got the tanker trucks, the milk trucks going from store to store, the store to house, the fridge to counter. All that goes into it as well with hot weather.

Makes sense. This time of year the shelf life is short. During winter it seems to last several days past marked date according to the sniff test.

Take a gallon of store bought milk and set it out in the sun for about 3 days. You'll never drink that crap again!

Why would I do something so stupid?

Im not saying to drink it! It'll seperate into pure water and some kind of plastic that looks like dried spray foam. I think i made a video of it. Sure doesnt just clabber up, like normal milk does!

A guy told me they suck so much of the pure milk out they have to put coloring back into it to get it white again. Whether true or not I don’t know. The bread is the mystery that gets me the most. Back when we struggled to by it we got over a week from it. Now no mold grows n I’m it after a month and makes one wonder how much is actually bread.

Glad my wife wanted Dairy cows and we don’t have to buy milk anymore

I know Fairlife has an extremely long shelf life if you don't open it up or you don't open it up very often.

I've had some sit in the fridge at that cabin and we'd be at the beach house for like 3-4 weeks and it had already been opened. Open it up give it the smell test and drink it. No problems.

I think it has to do with their ultra filtering process.

PSA: Aldi now makes their own version of Fairlife milk now and it is considerable cheaper than Fairlife. They make these new little 30g protein shakes with that same milk and they are delicious, when you need some quick protein on the go.

I've had it last at camp for a month or more out of date (opened) several times, fridge doesn't get opened much at all at camp so not much of a temp swing. And that's one of my peeves at home DON'T go standing there with the fridge wide open by Gawd i'll start sweating and give ya the stank eye 🤣 BUT hunter i mentioned it on here before a few times that since chinernan flu we'd have milk go bad before the due date 🤷🏾‍♂️

They make all milk into skim milk then add the fat back in to get the right content for 2%, whole milk, etc.

For some reason organic milk has a very long shelf life

They probably leave more of the raw milk in the “organic” milk. I’m not sure if milk can be truly “organic” or not. Maybe a person milking few at home could be. But you have to have minerals, feed and decent grass or hay for a milk cow to make some milk. She ain’t gonna make it on weeds and wild onions.

I milked cows for 10 years. Owned my own dairy for 8 of them. I would catch milk straight from the milk tank and it would last 4-6 weeks in the fridge. I raised puppies on some milk and left a gallon inside a barn that was shaded all day. It never went bad before the milk was gone, just sitting outside in the winter time. How yall think folks used milk before refrigeration came about? They bought the milk and kept it cool the cellar or the well. Would last weeks on end that way. Big difference in straight raw milk and store bought milk.

I drink lactaid milk. I don’t care what’s in it, I don’t care how it’s processed. I like it, I love it, I want some more of it.

I saw a video on expiration dates on food products and they were saying the only product that has to have an expiration date is baby formula. I think it's just a way to get people to buy more food and throw away food that say's it's expired. In my opinion if it smells good then eat it. If not throw it away. The way food is filled with preservatives these day it would probly sit out for months and not go bad.

ORGANIC is UHT Pasturized. (Ultra high temp), lasts considerably longer. Same with Parmalat shelf stable milk. Good to have in your hurricane/Snow day prep.

What makes the milk “organic”. Besides saying organic on the label.

Hell if I know! I'm not the milk man...! (and I wont take a DNA test to prove it )
