I have several. I always wait till it got cold to get them. Even then i would put in garage in trash bag over winter. Then spray with clear paint

I found huge one 30 years ago in Barbour County on a cold day, put a stick in the entrance hole and when I got home sprayed some wasp and hornet spray in the hole, still have it today

My wife’s uncle has one above his fireplace mantle. Been there for years. He cut it down when it was really cold and sealed it with some polyurethane spray. I know he’s had it at least 30 years. Probably longer. He got it when the wife and I were dating and we’ve been married 28 years and dated for 5 before that.

I found one like that close to one of my deer stands. I waited for a 20 degree morning then easy-peasy. Summertime may be a different story. If I get when it’s cold, what happens when it gets in the warm house? Be some oh crap moments. 😂 Nope , all die except for young queens and they vacate the nest . Nests are only used one year. Never knew that. 😎

I get them around my fields. I wait until dark and get a can of wasp spray. It shoots out to 10'-15'. Pull up in my truck and have at it. Roll the window up and watch. No more murder hornets. Go back in a few days and trim it down. Then give it to the boy scouts/Girl scouts and they love them, for dissection. Great learning tool.

My first one was a long time ago and I wish we had a video. It turned out good, but could have been awful. It was about 40 feet up hanging on a small limb above our campsite on a squirrel hunting trip. I figured we could just shoot the limb into and catch it in a garbage bag before it hit the ground. The first shot hit the limb and left it hanging by a hair. It fell on the second shot and we caught it. As soon as we got it closed they were hitting that bag on the inside like crazy. We put it in a second bag and tied it up. I hate to think what would’ve happened had it hit the ground, we would have all been in the river. I took it home and filled the bag with wasp spray and left it for a few days. No doubt one of the dumbest things I ever did that turned out ok.

The below advice is not intended for people that want to preserve the nest.
1. Slowly pull up next to it in your pickup.
2. Start recording on your phone
3. Roll the window down on passenger side (you need 2-people- preferably about 1/2 drunk to pull this off)
4. Shoot the shit out of it with the automatic 12-gauge of your choice.
a. I recommend 5-rounds of #8
b. Roll window back up
c. Watch with amazement as 1-trillion of those bastages wonder what happened to their home.
5. Drive about 1/2-mile and grab another cold one out of the cooler.
I skipped step 2; however, I gotta say - being about half lit and watching a hornets nest getting blown to bits by an Auto-5 was a GREAT close to a work day at the club. Sounds similar to my experience only we used a bottle of lighter fluid. Sat back and watched it burn with some cold ones.

I have several of them, i got. Wait till it gets cold. Shake tree a little after a few frosts, if nothing comes out cut it down. As some else said, all the hornets die every year, and queen leaves. Never had any come out in the house after it warmed up!

Pulled up in my truck next to one at church about a month ago. I cracked the window and emptied a can of Bengal into the hole and then filmed the bastards dying. It’s been dead since. I plan on getting it this winter if it’s still there.
