Anyone here tonight besides me? These bull riders are crazy, but it’s definitely entertaining. Lots of red-blooded Americans showed up to see this show. 🇺🇸🇺🇸

I used to work with a guy that was a part time/ full time/big time bull rider. One day he was telling a few of us at work about having a "wreck" with a bull in which his face planted firmly on the back of the bulls head. Said it crushed the structure of his face and that he spent a month or two in the hospital. He traced with his finger a line hidden in his hairline that went from just in front of one ear, across the top of his head and down to the other ear, where they peeled back his face to rebuild it. Said he was riding again a week and a half after he got out.

I think that most of us thought he was embellishing a story completely out of shape, until I saw him a few months after he had quit work to get back into bull riding again. His hair was shaved completely bald and he had a very visible scarline from one ear, across the top to the other ear just like he had said. He also had a fairly new looking cast on one arm and was telling me that he had to cut it off or they wouldn't let him ride in an event that coming weekend.

He DID ride in that event. Crazy is an understatement.

Another time he was laughing about almost getting into a fight with three guys at a watering hole in Cheyenne. Said they were all dressed up like urban Cowboys with fancy new boots and hats and two of them looked like they were walking steroid ads. One said he would be lucky to not get his azz kicked before the night was done. Told them that two hours ago he had gotten his azz kicked by a bull and that they probably couldn't do much worse, so let's just do it, and he started towards the door. Said he waited outside for a minute or two and went back in to fetch them. When he did, all three apologized and offered to buy him a beer.

I tend to be more believing of that story now too.

If you like bull riding but have never been to a real PBR event, you don't know what you are missing. We have been to the one in Nashville on several occasions. Whole lotta fun!

When I was in nursing school I was in the OR observing a case. The doctor was just about finished and told the first assist that he could get ready to close. Doc finished and first assist stepped up to start closing. The doc started to walk away then stepped back and asked the first assist how his weekend had been. He said not bad but this time the bull won. When we walked out of the OR the guy pulls his mask off and his nose looked like it was shifted 2 states to the left side of his face and bandaged with 2 black eyes. I said “you ride bulls “? He said “no I’m the fool that protects the cowboys and jumps in the barrels better known as the clown “. He said that’s the worst ride he had ever took because he didn’t get in fast enough and brace before that behemoth knocked me what seemed like 50’ in the air. Always liked the clowns but even more so after meeting him.

I have been to a couple of PBR events in Biloxi, MS several years back and they were great. Last rodeo I went to was in Cody, WY in July 2023 and it was entertaining. The Cody, WY rodeo runs from June 1 to end of August every summer.

Went to the one here in the Ft Worth Stockyards last night. Probably gong again here in a few hours. It's fun and very patriotic. Even the huge crowd of Chinese tourists stand for the flag and the opening prayer.

I have seen so many I have lost count! The PBR is pure bull riding and does not have the other entries such as Bareback Riding, Saddle Bronx, Steer Wrestling, etc. My son is a Professional Rodeo Announcer and does a lot of the Pro Rodeo productions. He is in IL this weekend at some Pro Rodeo Announcing. He was the Bullfighter of the Year two years ago and was awarded the title at the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie. Ok. I sleep better now knowing he is announcing and not fighting bulls! God watched over him for many years but he does have the scars!

There is usually only one clown at the rodeo. One of our best friends is Dusty Myers from MS and he was the National Finals Clown-Barrelman of the year this year and worked the World Championships in Las Vegas. The clowns job is to fill in the gaps between events to keep the crowd entertained and help the production move along. The other “clowns” are the Bullfighters. There job is to distract the Bull so the rider can get away once the ride is over. When a rider gets hung up on a Bull my heart stops. That is where the bullfighters really earn their paychecks. It’s a heck of a way to make a living as both rider and bullfighter. The Adrenalin rush these folks have is at another level. These are the men of the sporting world!
